btw, what spec is the KA???

It's just a friend of mine just got rear ended. She had a KA and it seems likely that it will be a Cat C as the boot won't shut. She would like something similar spec like leather seats, alloys and CD player. Hers was low mileage too so your 12,000 one sounds good.

The handling and performance is where the Clio has over the ST. That's it I think. I can live with the ST day to day more and spend more time inside it than the Clio.

That and the fact that the clio looks better!

Clio 172's do look good, but not as good as a ST.

Very sure 9/10 of the average person would agree aswell.

Anyway, Milkybk... My ST will be going soon for a good price ;)

Why are there no love for the Yaris SR :p

It comes in 3 drs & 5drs
it was only for sale for like 6 months (exclusivity! I have never seen another SR on the road yet)
It is reliable, it is a Toyota after all
It is well speced - some come with bluetooth, mine has keyless entry/comfort access/Smart Start or whatever you want to call it.
It will surprise people, no one would expect 1.8L under the hood of a Yaris. :D

ok...both Clio and ST is faster so its only a warm hatch.

Yes I agree on all points.

However I do appreciate the handling and performance credentials the Clio has. I just don't believe it is the better all round car.

Totally agree with this. I respect the various "sporty" Clios, but I absolutely hate them and would never own one. :p

Love the colour, but the car itself makes me urge. They just look like bubbles on wheels to me - same ballpark as the first Ford Ka. :p

TBH a ST is just as fast as a clio in a straight line and will probably keep up with one and a day to day basis. On a track the clio would win hands down. My only problem with the clio is how much the belts cost and how much of a pain the job is. Thats what put me off.
I do prefer the look and the drive of a clio but the Fez looks just as good and isnt as costly to run.

No disrespect to ST owners, but you would only get an ST if you couldn't insure a 182. I've owned many hot hatches in my time, and I have to say the 182 is by far one of the best.

I found the ST underpowered and a bit "clunky". Maybe the 180bhp upgrade improves the performance of the ST but still you cannot beat a 182 £ per fun.

I wouldn't say no to an ST, they are good, reliable cars I just think what's the point if you can get a 182 for same price or cheaper.

If you have your heart set on a ST then fair play.

The belts are not that expensive if you go to a indy. iirc when i had mine done moons ago (when i owned a 182), it was £495 inc a service. The aux belt is every 3 years or 36k and is about £350 i think, the cam is every 5 years or 72k and as i said about about £495 (air con vers). The aux belt is changed at the same time.

I really am surprised at the sort of following that the Fiesta STs have because I just can't understand why someone would want one over the significantly more powerful Civic Type R or the better handling (and again more powerful) 182. On paper they seem a little bit rubbish?

The only real justification is that you get a slightly newer car for your money, which is a bit of a rubbish justification for when buying a 'Hot' hatch.

Actually, at 150BHP surely its more of a warm hatch than anything?

I can get insured on a Z4 with no NCB so I am pretty sure i can get insurance on a clio. Yes I wouldn't get one because your reasoning although sound, it is also narrow minded, narrow minded in the way that it is 1 reason - performance. One don't really care for performance on a -5C January Monday morning to work. One like comfort, and the ST is a lot more comfortable.

Honda Civic are come with a scene tax, or whatever you want to call it. Set yourself a price and look at all 3 cars and the Civic Type-R always are older or higher mileage.

Plus, its French, and for me...it is actually a real reason, i would never buy a French car.

Fatal flaw in that argument. If comfort, ride quality and a nice interior are of that much importance why are you looking at hot hatches?

But its not like it is the differences are MASSIVE. Dealing with a couple of extra thousand miles and 2-3 years more age seems worth it for a better car, surely?

That's a bit silly.

Because one only has £5k and a 5 year old BMW 330i cost about £20k where as a 5 year old ST can be had for £5k.

Plus, why can't one want comfort AND a bit nippy? what is wrong with that? Do you expect crap interior just because you are buying something label as a Hot hatch? Does Hot hatch and crap interior and crap ride go hand in hand exclusively?

But its not like it is the differences are MASSIVE. Dealing with a couple of extra thousand miles and 2-3 years more age seems worth it for a better car, surely?

it is like 2 year difference in age, or 20k in miles, that is a lot, to me.

That's a bit silly.

No more silly than people here don't like Vauxhall. I just don't like French cars. It stems from personal experiences from the past. It is like one had food poisoning after eating chicken as a child and then hates chicken. I had a bad experience with a French car.

The ST is the all round better car, i wouldn't say there was any difference in build quality or reliability though compared to a clio. All the horror stories of the clio come from people buying lemons, and there's lots out there, these types of cars have the **** thrashed out of them, and when you buy a 100k mile + one for £1k, something is gonna break.

If you are after a comfy, well spec'd, reasonably quick hatchback, the ST is a very good car. But if performance, handling and general driving fun is top priority, test drive an ST and then a clio 172/182, you will never look back.
