Not been silly but with the right mods a ST can be just as fun and just as quick and make a better sound. 16 valve Ford engine always sounds good with an induction kit on it.

Also dont the 172s and 182s sometimes struggle to make those book figures? Thats what Ive heard. Some peoples 182s dont even have 175hp. Dont know how true that is though.

Because one only has £5k and a 5 year old BMW 330i cost about £20k where as a 5 year old ST can be had for £5k.

Because one is a Ford Fiesta with a bodykit and the other is very nearly a range topping saloon .

That's a bit of a ridiculous statement to make really. We can get 5 year old Kia magentis for £3k. Why don't we all buy one of those instead? :p

Plus, why can't one want comfort AND a bit nippy? what is wrong with that? Do you expect crap interior just because you are buying something label as a Hot hatch? Does Hot hatch and crap interior and crap ride go hand in hand exclusively?

Because the words 'Comfort' and 'Hatchback' in the same sentence are a bit silly in anycase, let alone with a performance orientated model. Hmm, I want a comfortable car with a good interior. I know, I'll buy a Ford Fiesta sitting on 17s and sports suspension :p.

I'm not denying that the Fiesta might have a better interior than the Clio, but a half decent saloon will kill them dead, and if 'comfort' and a slightly better interior is something that you're going to allow stand in the way of getting what is a better car then that is what you should be buying in my (un)humble opinion.

Its not like the clio is held together with cable ties and gaffer tape either.

No more silly than people here don't like Vauxhall. I just don't like French cars. It stems from personal experiences from the past. It is like one had food poisoning after eating chicken as a child and then hates chicken. I had a bad experience with a French car.

Fair enough.

Just imagine how gay the world would be if men starting disliking women because of a single bad experience ;) :D.

What does everyone think about a Mini Cooper S? 2004/05 models can be picked up for around 5/6k and they are around 170BHP at that age (it varies give or take a year or two from what I can tell).

Minis are nice but runflats :( no go. Ride is really bad due to them. Plus they dont have as many seats and a tiny boot.

Most cars will struggle to make book power. Especially after 5 years and how they've been looked after and serviced. Will depend on the rollers too and how they're set over on CS we've had 182's making anything from 160bhp up to 200bhp.

I do know that the ST is expensive to release extra power from in regards to the 'Mountune', is it?, kits.

.

But can I not have a bit of luxury even in a hot hatch? What is wrong with that?

I rate the interior of the 182 higher than that of my Mrs's poverty spec 1.0 clio. The driving seat of a 172/182 isn't a bad place to be at all.

No disrespect to ST owners, but you would only get an ST if you couldn't insure a 182.

I wholeheartedly disagree! :p

I could afford to insure either and i'd take the ST without a moment's thought. Handling isn't everything and I think it's the only area the Clio really beats the ST hands down in.

Plus with the Clio and CTR you really need to work the power out of the engine. With the ST, whilst not being as easy as forced induction, it's a bit easier.

Nothing but there is hardly luxury in a Fiesta ST.

And have 5 year old 330i's really appreciated to £20k? Awesome news!

Leather and heated seats is kinda nice don't you think? Would you buy a BMW without them? No, I bet. Why? Because they are nice!

And I was making a point, you know exactly what i mean. Do you have to take every word people say to the nearest dot, point, digit and penny? Being pedantic like that isn't a good look.

p.s. Didn't you get your 3 year old 335i for under 20k?

In terms of tuning the engine or driving the thing? If the former, then surely after spending a packet getting it up to Mountune power, the output is still only on par with a standard Clio or CTR?

and the leather?

You're really not getting the point here.

Just because it has heated leather seats does not mean that it is the forefront of luxury motoring. It means that it was a Ford Fiesta fitted with heated leather (probably nasty quality leather, going by the leather seats in a friend's MK6 Fiesta, but anyway) seats. A decent saloon is going to be better built, ride better and generally be a nicer place to spend miles all day long.

A Hot Hatch is supposed to be a jack of all trades car but with a gearing towards being fun above almost everything else, but the following of the ST seems to be the opposite. People like it because its not as good a drive as its competitors, but its got a slightly better interior and heated leather seats. Oh, and the residuals are lower (arguably because its a bit rubbish, but thats by the by) Awesome :p.

When you've got owners popping up and saying 'Well, they can made to handle and go alright with a couple of mods' you've seriously got to wonder what's the point when your money will buy you something that goes and handles better from the factory? And this isn't like mentioning mods is a one time thing. Every single ST thread I've ever flicked through involves someone mentioning the mountune pack.

Why someone would pick one over the competition is completely beyond me. Oh wait, unless of you need that quality interior, comfort, looks and general luxray we tend to associate with a Ford Fiesta :D

Ok, how about i find the Clio god damn ugly?:D

Even if you stick the montune package on the ST (which is about £2k iirc) its still slower than a clio 182 (large difference in top speed too if you are tracking), and less superior handling (but not by much). The ST is more refined, softer, comfortable and i guess a little bit easier to live with, thats not a bad thing, just depends what you want.

No, in terms of actual driving. I've not driven a Fiesta ST but I have driven a Focus with the same engine and despite none of the Clio, CTR or Focus having a turbocharger, the Focus is quite a bit easier to get the performance out of.
