Dell Vostro 1500

You need to unpack the nvidia drivers, download the modified .inf file and overwrite the original one.

Also, could someone let me know which Intel chipset family is in the Vostro 1500?

Went through the order setup about 4 times last night, could'nt figure out how my price was so much higher. Tried it again this morning and got it to £600 (thats including the  rather cheeky £60 delivery cost and Bluetooth). Is that right?
Yes i took off the 3 year warranty.

What is the deal with the warranty, if it breaks to they collect it or do i have to send it back myself? I thought Dell was known to have appalling support - is this no longer the case?

Does the battery stick out because its the 9cell one or does it stick out of the 6cell also?

Don't suppose there's any way of getting this without windows is there? I doubt i'll be using vista business as, if i get this i'll be using XP and vista ultimate.

Nope all their laptops come with an OS pre-installed...you can take it off ie reformat the hd and put your own os on it if you wish.

The Vostro's are for small businesses right? Don't you have to be associated with a small business to qualify for their finance options etc? Can anyone just order them?

I was about to ask the same question. :p

If anyone is interested I just spoke to someone at Dell through their live chat and you can get Vista Home Premium as opposed to Vista Business if you ring up rather than order online. They mentioned there could be a price difference as well but wouldn't say what it was and just said to speak to the sales team over the phone. I assume if there is one it's a price drop as opposed to an increase, but they wouldn't say!

I haven't got round to ringing them up yet, but I might do later when I'm ready to order.

Got the 163.44 drivers installed witht he modified inf and just re-installed the Bioshock demo through the normal download (not steam) and it worked perfectly.

Had everything on high (which it defaults to anyway) and it ran smoothly. VERY impressive!

Yup I did it over the phone for exactly that.

They said there might be a charge, but I was having none of it :p

Does take a little longer for them to process the order though.

Didn't make a diff in price for me!

I'm very tempted to get one of these, how does it compare to other laptops of the same price? Would it be good to take around a lot with me as i work at school and in an office and at home? Also, would it be any good for a bit of gaming?

This is the spec as given by the Dell Business Site, it costs £519. exc. VAT

Base Warranty - 1 Year Business Hardware Support
15.4" Wide Screen WXGA (1280 x 800) Display with TrueLife™
Matte Jet Black with 2.0 mega pixel camera
2048MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM (2x1024)
160GB (5400RPM) SATA Hard Drive
256MB nVidia® GeForce® 8600M GT

Final question :p Is it possible to order one through the website even if you aren't part of a business, and will it stay the same price (i know VAT will have to be added for a non business customer). This just seems like such a well specced laptop for the price. Questions Over. :D
