Looks interesting! I think I am going to wait for more user opinions before I shell out on it because it looks so different to anything else that I have seen.

This game has ZERO copy protection too, big props to the devs/publishers.

Demigod has zero copy protection on it, it meant that that piracy on this title will, in theory, be maximized. Stardock’s position on piracy is pretty straight forward but to repeat it here: It’s not that we don’t think piracy is massive. We just aren’t convinced that it results in that many lost sales. Or more to the point, we don’t think intrusive, obnoxious copy protection will result in more sales than we lose from people who don’t want to mess with it.

Imagine if Demigod had shipped with some nasty retail copy protection and got released early. Someone “cracks” it but doesn’t do a good job and the game ends up crashing randomly or something. Most people would just assume the game was buggy and that would likely cause more lost sales than the initial piracy did.

The good news, however, is that we’ll get to actually see the effects of piracy. Since we know Demigod is an outstanding game with a wide appeal with equal retail and digital distribution to other titles that came out this year with similar demographics we can see how well it sells compared to them.

That alone equals a pre-order from me.

None of Stardock's games have used copy protection. Galactic Civilizations, Sins of a Solar Empire, and now Demigod are all copy protection free.
And as they said, Sins was one of the best selling PC games of last year, so it does work.

However, there is one thing. No copy protection, but you must use Impulse to patch the games, there's not going to be separate downloaded patches. And also, since Sins and Demigod rely on multiplayer, there's key checks for that, which allows them to prevent illegally downloaded games to play online anyway.

But anyway, its a great game, and huzzah for Stardock for still not using DRM!

I just realised that I have a 20% off code for impulse for when I filled in a survey for them a while back so Demigod will only cost me £21.41 if I do buy it :)

No, it's exclusive to Impulse (cheaper than Steam), and retail stores.

Thanks for that.

Arrrrhhh... I remember reading about this before it was launched a while back.

Is the service similiar in function to STEAM then? Unlimited downloads, matchmaking etc?

As it seems to be integral to the game, if I buy retail, will I get access to the download via Impulse as in with some games on STEAM, ie Empire: Total War?

Impulse is offering the DIGITAL DOWNLOAD for £26.89 (Approx).

I have allready found the retail version for £17.99 with pretty much guaranteed release day delivery from a reputable retailer.

I would prefer digital download as a box is wastefull and not enviromentally freindly BUT - I refuse to £8.90 MORE for a digital download, it is more than a 66% INCREASE over retail, that is pants.

I do get concerned about this Digital download route though, where will it end, will we uiltmately have to have several clients installed on our PC's to download and play our games?

Although, this does intrigue me form their Support section:

I want to sell my copy of X to my brother, because I don't need it anymore. Reasonable requests can be handled through support.

Something STEAM lacks in my opinion.

Do GPG have a stake in Impulse then?
