Dentist

Aaaaaargh!

Over the past few days my wisdom teeth (oxymoron I know) have really started being a pain in the ass/mouth.

Brushing more and using gallons of mouthwash is doing nothing :(

It's not the kind of pain that reduces you to tears, but the kind of pain that simply drives you nuts over a longer period.

I really don't want to see the dentist right now, for obvious raisins..
Have you tried warm saltwater rinses? Or a short course of Corsodyl?

Been to the dentist today for the first time in my life (47 years). Dentist said his previous record was 35 years. Anyway surprisingly no serious problems with my teeth or gums apart from a large amount of calculus build up due to not brushing properly.

He took x-rays and my teeth look fine. I've booked at hygienist appointment to get rid of the calculus at the earliest opportunity which is three months.

He said my teeth are better than some patients he sees every three months. Asked if I have bad breath and he said no, just said keep doing what I am doing which is brushing with an Oral-B electric toothbrush which has an app to guide you.

Then tongue scraping with an Orabrush and then an oral rinse with Curasept 0.05 daily mouth rinse.

I'm also water flossing after the last meal of the day and doing the above twice a day.

Why hadn't you ever been?

I'm surprised you were never taken as a child when its free.
My mother never took me, maybe she didn’t know it was free. I was a child in the late seventies early eighties maybe it wasn’t free then. For this reason going to the dentist was never part of my routine.

Fair enough.

Kudos on the standard of your teeth, you've obviously looked after them well nonetheless.
Not really neglected to brush on the chewing or inside surfaces with a manual brush as I was never taught how, only brushed the outside surface which is visible. My new electric brush with whizzy app taught me how to do it properly.

Went to the hygienist today, all went well removed the build up of calculus without any pain. She said she could tell I’d been brushing my teeth well. Said I do not need to see her for a year.

Also recommended these interdental brushes…

I need the orange ones as they are the smallest and the gaps between my teeth are tight. I have tried other TePe ones but they weren’t as rigid as these ones. I didn’t know there were two different types.

Will probably book a dental checkup in October which is six months since I last saw the dentist, but won’t book the hygienist for a year. I’m brushing my teeth so well.

I was at my dentist the other day, heard the receptionist tell someone they are only taking on private now

I was also recommended those interdental brushes by my dentist. They work well and I much prefer them to the metal ones, but I was expecting them to last a lot longer than they do. I find they are only lasting a handful of uses until they crack and separate

I believe these ones are picks rather than brushes hence why there’s two different types. I tried the brushes and they weren’t great, I was given three sample picks by the hygienist and they are much more rigid and don’t bend as much.

I’m using the rubber ones you linked in the above post. Yes they are much more rigid but the rubber coating has come off a couple of mine now. Maybe my teeth are too crowded in certain areas and it’s snagging/tearing them.

Which are you using at the moment? Might be worth me considering once these run out
