Depressing adverts.

I genuinely don't. I'm a sucker for word of mouth, perhaps which might be an indirect link to advertising but I'll always do my own research to ensure I get the best for my money. Even if it's a sweet brand, I'll grab cheaper supermarket equivalents because well, they're generally just the same. Not because I've seen a Gorilla playing drums. I use my own experience, research and try things before I buy them.

Advertising is everywhere in modern life though, regardless of whether you pay attention to it or not.

While you might not go out and buy a bar of Dairy Milk because you saw an advert for it with a Gorilla playing the Drums.... You might buy a can of Ronseal because it's been advertised more so than it's rivals and through association and it's campaigns has become a household name.

One of the main reasons I don't watch TV is due to the adverts. I just can't stand them, it started by me pressing mute on them and then I just could not handle even watching the screen during adverts, which inevitably caused me to turn it off.

When i am at someone's house and catch some TV the first thing i notice is the adverts and it bothers me, i look for the remote to press mute.

Surely you cant resist this one?, doesnt it make you want to go out and buy electricity immediately?

Asking a legitimate question is being hostile?

I know they serve a purpose but man, I wish Sky would give us the option to "opt out" from seeing them. For me personally if I have spare cash I will happily give to cancer research or a similar charity, I don't need to be guilted into doing so. There's one showing ATM where it's just 2 minutes of dying kids in Africa, which is terrible but it's not the sort of thing you want to see.

It's especially bad at Christmas when it seems every advert is about someone dying.

So what's your thoughts on them? Are they needed? Are they over the top? Have you ever donated after watching an advert?

You will never in your life be able to comprehend how little i actually care about the plight of other people in the world.

TBH I only ignore the charity ones, the other ones just annoy me. Sick to death of seeing the same **** over and over again. the charity ones however are below the belt, making someone feel guilty? Spend the money on helping them and not adverts, I think the NSPCC got picked up a few years ago for spending 50% of their budget on advertising or something*

*Probably not the right number

Those third world charity adverts just grate on me.

All I see is people trying to live in places that can't sustain a large human population. As cold as it sounds, they should be allowed to just fade out.

Also, if there is no food to go round maybe they shouldn't have children?

Perhaps if the Pope would allow contraception?

Advertisement is rarely about individual products, its all about brand awareness and familiarity.
How do you know Cillit Bang exists? You have the choice of Cillit Bang and Some random brand, they both do exactly the same job, the same price but which do you choose? For 99% of people its going to be Cillit bang for the simple reason your familiar to the brand.
The familiar you are to the brand the closer you are to it and the higher chance of you buying there products when up against other brands..
