Sort of defeats the point of 320hp really :p

Not really.

Not many people drive at 10/10ths on the public road. No reason why he can't can't cheaper tyres for daily duties and the RSRs for track days and hoon days.

Actually out of interest, how did you find the RSRs?

I really liked the RS-R's and I've already bought them some more.

Seriously though Joshy - I'm not going to drive about half throttle everywhere because I under-tyred my car. I don't want to be feathering the throttle, clenching my butt when over taking someone down a slip road etc waiting for it to go sideways. To me that just seems ludicrous.

Also I wasn't looking for a magical solution, it was just a bit of a rant! On a side note - I know how everyone loves these mk1_salami vs the world threads, but I raced a TVR Cerbera, Nissan GTR, 500hp Almera x2 and 480hp Civic EP3 today, it was fun

Cerbera - beat it off the line and continued to pull away until ~115 mph
Nissan GTR - strangely pulled away from it at first until I missed 3rd and it romped away to victory
Almera - first pull - he monstered the launch and owned me big style
second race - he bogged down at launch, and didn't catch me in time
Civic - Miss shifted and he beat me.

I was of course at the Banzai magazine day at Crail. Beautiful weather but I simply couldn't get the car off the line and ended up doing stupid 60ft times like 2.2 seconds, which wasn't helped by my tyres which had seen better days. Nevertheless I was still into the 12's and raised my terminal speed by 5mph upto 116 mph across the line.

Using 100% throttle isn't 10/10ths. There isn't a day I drive my car I don't use 100% throttle!

If your doing 1/4 miles then you dont want to go too wide a tyre as its more drag which is more losses, though I have to say thats one beast with 323bhp, great 1/4 mile times and terminal speeds :D think I would need that 3.5k upgrade to hit those if I ever 1/4'd mine, I prefer the mid range performance though ;)

Tony:)

i was lighting up the rear end in second with 360bhp and 255 tyres so i can understand how much of a pain that must be.

i to am running a double wishbone suspension mazda

thought about running big overfenders so you can get some decent width?

maybe get up to 255 on a 8.5in rim, that will give you much better traction.

im only 400bhp but going up 335s on the rear as like you i dont fancy destroying tyres all the time.

what does your car weigh at the moment?

Get another set of rims for normal tyres and press the throttle pedal less far when on the road, no longer wear out soft tyres on the way to work. /thread.

Was quite tempted by a set of 595 RS-Rs for my track wheels, but think I'm going to go for Yoko AD08s instead - they have a treadwear rating of 180 vs. the RS-Rs 140. Should last that little bit longer driving to/ from track days, as I'm not really keen on leaving a set of wheels unattended.

Overtaking down slip roads a regular thing?

Often worry about wheel spin on public roads?

Just slow down TBH. Gonna have yourself an accident.

Just checked the Crail website and I ran a 12.5 at 113, which made it the fastest RWD car there! Lol.

Didn't even realise I'd won the class, and I left to go home early! d'oh

Turbotoaster - weighed at 1,007kg.

Didn't realise anyone from OcUK was going to Crail.

Your backfiring nearly blew up my ear drums as I was standing right next to you on the line vs the GTR!

Nathan, would you consider someone overtaking you down a 2 lane slip road dangerous?
