I don't think anyone is doubting it's quality or worth when doing multiple chips. It's just a lot to pay for a one off.

I might pick one up anyway... it was rather scary hitting my 3770k with a hammer and piece of wood, took me a few times to get it right too. I have a few haswell and ivy chips knocking around I've been considering delidding, so I might actually get my monies worth.

That will be a great option. Any chance it could be added as a option to all unlocked K series cpu's at some point?
Oh don't get me wrong I believe its great quality but idea is simple and a tool for half the price exists.

This 100%. There is no doubt this is great, but the design flaw is being overly complicated/engineered, to the point of increasing the price needlessly.
I'm not sure that anything can be over-engineered when you are talking about applying pressure to a £370 chip with a potentially fragile PCB...

you mess up on 1 i7 or i5 cpu though and you are stuffed. unless you delid pentiums i say its worth it. you can sell in on the mm for £10 less or you could keep it for next time Intel use crap paste
you have to be pretty stupid to mess it up.
I did it with an i5 no probs.

It doesn't do anything to the function of the thing, just makes it more expensive.

AMD use liquid metal/solder on their CPUs. Zen will not require a delid device.

Delidding may not make any difference to that. It didn't to my 4670k and I still have one core significantly cooler than the others.
