No. You use VERY little liquid metal - then you carefully spread it to cover the die.

It's liquid, so no worry about air bubbles like with normal TIM.

Thats silicon dependent but for sure the better temps will help with a stable OC.

We just delided 7700K with this.
Awesome.
However, the side that you would use to glue the ihs back is not compatible with kaby lake ihs.
It would be worth it to report it to EK/der8auer so they can change the design.

I used black liquid gasket on mine. Black silicone sealant should do the job just as well. Don't forget to leave a airgap though.

2. I assume this is not needed when not sealing IHS and only using the retention clip to keep it in place?

Used one of these before on a 4790k then sold it on.

I've went for a rockit delid and relid tool this time for my 7700k, really not happy with temps.

If you look at your cpu there is a airgap on one edge. Presumeably it's there to let any heated air out so that it doesn't build up in the confined space and do something bad.

Same thing happened to me when i used it on a 4790k although i only used it once, i got a replacement and sold it on.
