Derren Brown: Apocolypse

why because the acting is bad? its supposed to be bad so its believable by naive idiots who turn there brain off and grab pop chicken from the microwave

It's supposed to be bad acting so it's believable? You go and act **** in a film and get yourself an Oscar for Best Actor. Do you really think a believable performance is best served from a bad actor?

He wasn't a famous actor nor a particularly good one, just a member of the public who has probably done some small time acting on the side which many people do. You need to take a step back and look at your argument seriously. There are too many IFS and BUTS which suggests it is far more likely that Derren Brown/C4 would NOT take such a risk, not the other way round? :s

There are lots of IFS and BUTS that suggest the moon landing was faked. There are lots of IFS and BUTS that suggest the Twin Towers were brought down by controlled demolition. You need to take a step back from funny camera angles, good quality audio and mouldy sandwiches and actually think about the process of making television for a prime time terrestrial broadcast.

Dude I'm contractually obliged to not talk pricing with other food service compaines or thier representatives while I am employed by this company and 6 months after I leave their service.

Its not a conspiricy, its just the way the world works.

People covering up Jimmy Saville sticking his fingers in 9 year olds is a conspiricy, signing an NDA isnt.

It is a conspiracy theory. You are theorising that multiple parties have conspired to deceive a large number of people. How much more conspiracy theory can you get?

What you are actually doing is trying to distance yourself and others from the phrase 'conspiracy theory' because of it's negative reputation. You needn't worry. Excluding the use of the word 'conspiracy' won't make your argument any more valid.

Here's the trailer for tomorrow's show. Another conspiracy? More actors?

Yes, but what appears to be happening is those that don't believe are being categorised under a collective umbrella of conspiracy theorist/nut job party who also assumedly believe moon landings are fake and 911 was an inside job. Confusingly those that are doing this appear to believe it adds weight to their point  it doesn't however, it infact weakens the view others have of them.

I wouldn't say that I believe it adds weight to the points but the arguments that have been made against it being real aren't dissimilar to the arguments people make about the moon landings being faked, or 9/11 being an inside job or other conspiracies. As said, it's all based on IFS and BUTS and people's certainty about specific things being impossible, even though there isn't any evidence to suggest those things aren't possible. The arguments are too similar to not draw a comparison.

And it's not like that's all we've been saying...

So now the crew are all contractually obliged to keep quiet too? This is turning into a pretty big conspiracy. Presumably he's been doing this for years, as this isn't the first thing he's done like this.
WTF are you on about? why do the crew need to be in on anything?
You know in the real world when police go undercover etc and only the handler generally knows.....
why couldnt this happen on the set? everyone doesnt need to know hes an actor they just need to do there jobs and in the filming industry everything is about who you know.

so if the crew did know, anyone who spoke out would have a really hard time ever finding jobs in filming after.

My ex-wife was a makeup artist so I know this for a fact all of her work came from people she knew at college or people she met on set and never from applying for jobs as people tend to always get in someone they know via a friend of a friend.

Find me medical science journals or articles showing this type of hypnotism to be real then....

If it adds no weight it isn't worth mentioning, even if you mistakenly believe they are similar examples in comparison.

It's kind of odd stance, because all you have as arguments, is "because Derren said so".

In similar way, when Zborniak tries to sweep it as "conspiracy theory" he only does so because it is the only thing that could validate his straw man of an argument.

We all watched the same evening entertainment show. It was just a show, a TV feature run by illusionist. For all intents and purposes, it was a large scale, glorified pulling dove out of the hat with a snare and a loud "tada" at the end.

There are only two ways to execute such show:
- One is to make audience go "how the ef". You do the trick, everyone knows it was a trick, but they stay tuned, because they want to understand what happened - they want the reveal - the explanation of how on earth was it done. It's the very same reason that makes you stay til the end of "Sting" or "Oceans Eleven", or the "Hustle" series.
- Second one is to make audience go "what the ef". You convince them the trick is real and they stay tuned to witness the bizarre and stare at it in awe as if they witnessed blind men regaining sight and disabled dancing at the faith healer performance. It's the same reason that makes you stay until the end of "Stigmata" or "Paranormal Activity 17", or the "Twin Peaks" series.

Derren Brown prefers second method. His show contained most far fetched elements, like one touch hypnosis, guy who doesn't spot six cameras per room in his own house, end of the world with fireworks on tight Channel 4 budget, disappearing props in different camera takes of the same scene, repeated footages in timeline weeks apart, mirrors on the walls that nobody ever looked at directly and psychological reinvention of main character as shallow and full of goblee dee gook as office trust exercises involving walking on hot coals. And, once again, we all watched the same entertainment show, but most of us saw just that - illusionist show, but a few of you saw what they presumed to be reportage.

Us, explaining to you, that it wasn't true story, is not conspiracy theory, because there was no conspiracy to begin with. You cannot defraud someone voluntarily attending illusionist show, as long as they understand it was just a illusionist show. You wouldn't scream conspiracy when a birthday "magician" pulls very long handkerchief out of his assistants ear. You wouldn't feel defrauded when Blair Witch Project ends with someone standing in the corner of a basement at a building site. Even if original Blair Witch Project setup and websites in pre-Sundance times given an impression their film was "based on true events". You would understand that you are watching a movie, a mock up, not documentary, and distance yourself accordingly. It's not any different with Derren Brown's shows.
