The red bars for the search etc... need dimming to the same red as the logo. They stand out more because they are too bright now (compared to the logo).

It may also look better to kake the UK the same grey colour as the top menus (before hoverover) as they don't gel properly with the logo.

I think these two small changes to the style sheet (I hope they're on the style sheet) would make the logo fit in much better.

edit: and increase the logo size a touch. Too much black space above and below the logo.

I'm just happy that someone got rewarded for the time and effort that they put into creating a new logo for Spie. Rather than get some graphic design company to try and design a new logo for his company and who perhaps knows nothing about OCUK and what it's all about, Spie gave that opportunity to members here to get involved and I reckon the winner is bursting with pride at seeing their work everytime they log on to the site. I think It's a win win situation. Will the new logo stop people shopping here? Doubt it.

Al;)

i like it tbh.

i dont personally like the idea of a white back ground, but experiments sound good :D

if anything, you could try having a little ambient glow (i think thats what u call it?) around it to make it stand out more.

get testing

It just doesn't look quite right on the black background. I'm not knocking the design, think its a good'un, just preferred the mock up on a white site that Katie did.

They got a new logo designed for nothing. Well done them.

Maybe it undermines the work of graphic designers?

Dunno - just an alternative point of view.

The logo looks great IMO. Very fresh and clean and is seamless with the design.

I think the issue most people will have is the fact that the previous logo was a 'sore thumb' affair and made an immediate visual impact when visting the site. This was great when OCUK started but they're a massive european company now and the new logo has a professional impetus that the previous one doesn't.

Congratulations to the winner, and congratulations to Spie for actively involving your community.. :)

What a load of old ****.

I never thought the old logo was a 'sore thumb' or even an 'eye sore'.

As you say, the old logo made a visual impact - together with the overall look of the site - it has a feel to it which hasn't changed very much.

It's just a small logo at the top of the screen.

As for a 'professional impetus' - what are you on?

erm

If it's such a load of old ****, why do you feel the need to play such a part in this thead?

You mentioned earlier that this thread undermines the work of graphics designers. If you believe this then please explain your comment of - 'it's just a small logo at the top of the screen':confused:

Professional impetus;

Dictionary.com said:
noun, plural -tus⋅es. 1. a moving force; impulse; stimulus: The grant for building the opera house gave impetus to the city's cultural life.

A logo plays a huge part to corporate identity. The logo can be found on numerous aspects of a companies portfolio... website, letterheads, emails, stationary, corrospondance... visually at HQ. How can you not see that this logo doesn't provide professional impetus? It is the figurehead of the company, the aspect of the company that people relate to.

The current logo (still at the top of the forum) whilst recognisable is old! It looks like wordart. What is wrong with a company wishing to upgrade?

You seem a bit bitter. Not a graphics designer wanting to charge someone a few K for the priviledge of a new logo perchance? :p

Personally i think the dark grey/light grey logo would look far better on the black border of the site. Like it is on the black t-shirt.

get rid of the text in the middle and incorporate it into the logo, or use the shorter logo.

Looks like you have accidentally included two bit of the same information at the moment.

The above looks like it's always been there, which is the best accolade I can give any entry and would suit any background.

I believe as time wears on people will start to see that the current one just doesn't fit...

Agreed. I think the current logo looks ok visually but it's not compact enough.

How is it undermining the work of graphic designers? If they think they can do better they have nothing to worry about.

totally agreed - if they wanted graphic designers to do it - they would pay for them - they didnt care who made a logo as long as it was made. so petty.
