how do the admin know if someone edited the first post they made in this thread with an image made later in the thread and called it their own? i don't mean editing the actual post though but the image in the location that the post points to.

What he said ^

Looking at the various competitor sites out there, they're all very simple designs. A lot of them are just the name of the store and web address in some nice font with maybe a very simple logo. Most have gone with a simple, stylish approach and i think it works well for a high end PC parts store.

I think some of these are way too busy and the more subtle ones look much better. There are lots of good ones in there, I'd hate to have the job of choosing one.

fair point. how do the admin know if someone edited the first post they made in this thread with an image made later in the thread and called it their own? i don't mean editing the actual post though but the image in the location that the post points to.

Well when they turn around and say 'Can we have that EPS file now?' there is a good chance they won't have it if they're trying to pass off someone elses design as their own. If they've actually made one very very similar, then I suppose it will be down to user vigilince to say 'hey, he didn't do that'

Am I getting better or worse :(:

Not bad but seeing as this is commercial use, you could be treading dodgy ground using 'stock' images that could well be restricted by copyright or something. OcUK could end up with a hefty annoyance from something like that.

I only bring that up because that grunge style seemed familiar from when I was looking through google images earlier.

Ah very true. An edit of a jpg posted here won't have the layers in the .psd file...

Well, they want an EPS vector, so anyone just making stuff in photoshop, unless they very specifically know what they're doing are just wasting their time at the moment, unless they do what I did and spend an hour learning how to and subsequently making it a vector image properly.

I used to have a program that would make vectors from the images you loaded in :P Seems simple from that xD

Isn't it just File -> Save as -> (Format) EPS -> Select options such as "Include Vector data"

Job done?

Can someone really copyright the Union Jack? :(

If you've constructed it as a raster, apparently not, so I was told earlier.

Might do if you make it solely out of shape layers.

Not the flag/design itself but I suspect that very specific grunge version you've used which appears to be used by a company selling phone/ipod/laptop skins could well cause an issue if they ever noticed it.

Couple of tweaks to mine:

I'm not too sure about the tweaks you've made. I think your original really works, but I do have a few niggles with the borders and lack of colour.

What do you think about this?

It incorporates several different peoples ideas, so you can argue it out who owns what bit! :p

Looks good gord but i'm really not a fan of the rounded edge fonts. I think OcUK suits a sharper feeling logo, I don't think that would sit right with the rest of the image the site gives. Not sure on the overlapping Oc either.

The flag is probably a good method of adding colour but like you say, someone else has done that and I was already steering close enough to plagiarising nimz' fan design! :p

Out of interest, do you have a portfolio site?

Hmm, I think you might be right.. I will redo it with a sharper font.
