Yes, I really think the logo has held back OC/UK, oh hang on a minute, has the owner not just got himself a ferrari 599? yup, that sounds like a strangled by its logo business to me! - Not!:mad::rolleyes:

This sort of thing really annoys me - People like my late Grandfather used to salute the flag for good reason - it represents this country of ours.

Many a footy thug waves the St georges flag - for that reason should we ban that too?

Its a stupid idea to ditch the logo regardless of whichever faction uses it - I see OC/UK's logo and think of a sucessful UK based company, the BNP is the last thing that enters my thinking.

I think its a good thing that OC literally flys the flag for the UK and long may it continue.:cool::cool:

I'll post my effort later if I can get Paint to work.... :o

Christ, you're like the embodiment of The Sun. I think you're missing the point and completely overreacting. Adopting a globally established identity (the union jack) as your logo is risky, because you can end up without your own identity, this is not good for any company - it's good to want to represent the UK, but the union jack is a tad unecessary, the site is already established as a .co.uk and UK is the company name. The marque says nothing about the company, or consumer electronics. None of this means you can't run a successful business(obviously - see overclockers.co.uk), however you could be running an even more successful business with decent branding. It's why lots of companies spend large portions of their budget on it.

Samione really should stop taking the mick of the people in here. Most people don't do it as a profession so hats off to anyone whos plucked up the courage to enter :)

If Samione really wants to show off his work, just google his username, DesignersTalk has some bits of work she/he has done :) It's only fair that everyone gets to see what you've done if you're going to take the mick isn't it?

Go for it, i'm not beyond criticism, i'm sure you could have a field day with my work. I was more concerned with Gord's professional opinion, he himself stated, that he agreed with me, but lowered his own standards of judgement of peoples work in this competition, coming from a professional, that doesn't bode well for the branding of a large company. I appreciate wanting to get the community involved, and am not trying to pee on anyone's bonfire, the level of this sort of job is just a big one.

Here's links to my stuff on DT;
This is nearly year old work - been doing a foundation full time.

You don't have to agree I was just explaining why I was reluctant to directly use the flag. Whether people should or shouldn't make any connections is irrelevent to whether they will or will not make any connections and it was a route I didn't really want to take with my ideas.

Is that ok with you?

Surely there is some dissatisfaction with the logo as it is, else they wouldn't be asking for a new one would they, so i've no idea how the Ferrari is relevent to anything at all?

edit - dokko has made a good reimagining of the current logo I think, with a different font it could work very well :)

Na they just realised the logo was really dated. the fact that the name the company colours are red blue, white and domain is ".co.uk" it only seems fitting to use the british flag.

I do agree that some overseas users will be a little less forthcoming with using a site that's so tied to its origin and maybe a small minority may assume its only dealing within the UK. But tbh I do think that they are past that. Maybe if they dropped the uk, managed to buy the overclockers.com (lol) they could be a proper international company but tbh they are busy enough at the moment.

In my eyes gilly owns the "online-uk-market-leading-computer-component-company" and I never give the high street companies a thought for pc products. But thats because ocuk are so good in price comparison, not because they have a british flag.

I'll put my 2p in -

Whatever logo is picked I think it should contain both OCUK and Overclockers on it because there are lots of people who know one or the other.
I quite like this one -

How about putting the Union Flag in the OCUK letters?

Yeh, and can we see a 2D version.

I'm not too sure about the tweaks you've made. I think your original really works, but I do have a few niggles with the borders and lack of colour.

What do you think about this?

It incorporates several different peoples ideas, so you can argue it out who owns what bit! :p

this is the best logo by far, love it

We all know there is a wide spectrum of work here in terms of quality but what you did wasn't professional in any sense. A true professional doesn't debase peoples hard work in the way that you did, no matter what the quality - only someone who takes some kind of pleasure from putting other people down is as petty as that.
