Skippi - I'm afraid to say that unless you're incredibly fortunate, you will have the love for design knocked out of you. It's a bit of a no-win situation: if you've done good design work, it doesn't get noticed [because it's not meant to; good design is transparent], but if you do something bad, people from all walks of life will queue up to tell you just how bad it is.
The trouble with design is that too many people think it's a profession of creative expression, when it isn't; it's about solving problems and communicating. That's it.
And if anyone takes umbrage at that statement, and wishes to engage in a "what is design and how does it differ from art?" type debate, I'll be quite categorically somewhere else
