*** Desk and Room Gallery***

Spent today so far fitting a 2m dark oak kitchen worktop (£70 from eBay) to the study wall. So I now have a new desk!

720mm deep so plenty of depth. Chair now goes all the way under too, which is much more comfortable as you can rest the whole of your forearms on the desk if you want.

Before oiling (sort of - seller had already applied one coat of Danish oil at this point):

After 1 coat of oil (with Osmo top oil clear - expensive but good and goes a long way):

I'm not a fan of having draws near my PC as they inevitably get filled with rubbish and are used as a dumping ground for whatever's in my pockets.

However, that counter top, in the picture where you have applied the oil looks nice and it really suits the room.

Yeah, I think it suits the room / space really well and it looks very smart and tidy.

I'm six foot six / seven, so getting a desk that's a) tall enough b) deep enough, is always a problem, but with something like that it looks very easy to get a piece of wood that fits the depth needed and then to fix it like that, would be something I'd look in to.

It's really made with the attention to detail, the cable management, the finish on the desktop, blah blah.

Looks good. I have to say, the actual monitor's and PC's rarely impress me as much as how the rooms and desks look, some look really smart and a lot of care and attention have gone in to them.

Participant, I've been lurking and enjoying that desk's evolution, just wanted to jump in and say how much I like it! Very simple, elegant.

Does the headphone wire just lay over your lap when in use?

Cheers. The headphone wire lays across the desk, as there's a headphone port in the Creative volume control you can see under the monitor.

It is Eames, A30's.

I've owned both and really rate the A30's. Audio quality could be better, but is by no means bad. I personally thought the A40's were terrible. Horrible audio quality, uncomfortable and tacky. Was really disappointed, as they're marketed as an 'upgrade' on the A30's. Certainly not the case.

Thanks for all the comments earlier guys. I'm absolutely loving the new desk arrangement.

Having the drawers right next to the computer makes everything so much neater and easier to organise. Obviously to those that randomly empty their pockets into their chests of drawers that might not be the case  :p. But it's great having the extra work area and the cost relative to what you'd pay for a pre-fab was absolutely miniscule.

Here's another before + after:

Next on the list is a blind to replace the curtains that no longer hang properly because of the desk, as well as a wireless mouse and keyboard to further de-clutter the surface.
