Destory all Gatso Cameras

If you know they are there then dont bloody speed.

Its your own fault if you get caught,

And before you start complaining about other people slamming on the brakes, if you wernt speed then you wouldnt need to worry about them coming back down to your speed ;)

Fair enough, but what do we do about the bozo's who insist on braking to 30mph when they spot a Gatso, even when there is a higher speed limit sign next to the flippin' camera?

But what happens if you are already in the outside lane of a dual carriageway, passing a couple of lorries, and said bozo is driving a Maserati? :D

Aln Woodford, probably the worst typist in the wordl :p

Only going to cost us aload of money to replace them though.

And I suppose the millions generated from fines wont cover that? The money is hardly being used to make the roads better.

Nice new Volvos the police in Sussex have.

The more that get torched in this country, the better as far as i'm concerned.

Take a drive in any country in the EU. You dont find as many of these every mile anywhere else.

I wonder if any of them have been torched to destroy the film in them, and thus avoid a fine?

Most aren't film anyways, they are digital, so torching it once you've been flashed is pointless. I can't remember if the info is stored on a HDD inthe camera or sent to a central database though.

Completely stupid and pointless waste of tax payers money though, destroying the cameras.

I would highly recommend that people DONT go vandalising the cameras anymore. The police are rolling out covert CCTV to monitor the cameras so its likely you could end up in serious trouble and not just with 3 points and £60 out of your wallet.

I doubt very much that the camera is linked up, so I expect somebody still has to come and "download" from them.

In designing the ultimate camera in my head it would be linked either wirelessly or wired and would indeed send the pictures straight to a central location.
Witht he speed computers can operate at there really is no reason why you couldn't be snapped at say 2:00pm and have your fine waiting for you on your doorstep the next morning.
Reality is that usually you need to wait for the "next batch" before you receive your NIP.

If everyone done the same thing to speed cameras the goverment couldnt do anything about it. Those things are useless they dont improve safety they dont make people slow down long term its just another way to make them more money.

Seems quite expensive to torch them in this way. Petrol and a tyre round the camera, surely that would cost a little bit.

I had heard that it could be easily done if you drilled a hole in the side of the camera and then used some sort of aerosol to explode the camera from the inside out.

they do

the only "digital" cameras as such as the newer Truvelo type that are forward facing.

and of course SPECS which is just 2 digital CCTV cameras linked up.

Isn't the quickest, safest and cheapest way of tampering with them to wrap the lens in cling film?

If your ultimate point is to make it so that the camera doesn't make any money then the quickest, cheapest and easiest way is by using your observation skills.
You see, when you combine warning signs, road markings and a great big bloody yellow box at the side of the road - don't go past it over the limit and the camera makes no money.

It really is that simple.

One in a near by village got shot in the lense with a shotgun last year which seemed a little extreme :o

The "must drop to at least 5mph under the speed limit" approach that most people seem to adopt with them is starting to wear a little thin I must admit
