Destory all Gatso Cameras

The "must drop to at least 5mph under the speed limit" approach that most people seem to adopt with them is starting to wear a little thin I must admit
Not many speed cameras around here, but then most people do 40 in NSL anyway

Fair enough, but what do we do about the bozo's who insist on braking to 30mph when they spot a Gatso, even when there is a higher speed limit sign next to the flippin' camera?

Ever driven the A6?

Speed limit changes by the mile, I just do 30 at all the cameras (there are a lot), and drive sensibly between them.

Gatsos every 500-1000meters would solve the slamming on the brakes problem ;)

People wouldnt be able to speed then, imagine the speeding fines they would get :p

Somebody has been listening to you two. :D

On the A6 between Bedford and Clophill, there is a stretch about 4 miles long with IIRC (I tend to avoid the road in general) 8 speed cameras.
When I started driving this was a nice fast road you could easily keep 60+ all the way along with no trouble at all. Now with all the cameras about nearly everyone drives along at 30-40 in a NSL area, and you cannot overtake as ther is usually a stream of cars doing the same thing in the opposite direction.

A fair bit of it, yeah. But mostly before Gatsos were invented :D

There are roads like that round here too. A34 anyone?

But why drive at 30 if the limit is higher, and conditions are suitable?

If it's a clear, dry day, why should I have to drive 10mph or more below the limit, just because you can't be bothered to keep an eye on the speed limit signs?

Yeah, because its so much better to stick to 30 rather than paying attention to the traffic signs and knowing what speed you can be doing. Probably miss other important things then like school crossing signs etc?
You are unfortunately in the majority on the roads too these days. Easier to stay to 40 everywhere and slam on at the hint of a speed camera. Much to the annoyance of those drivers who like to look beyond our front bumpers.

Despite what the adverts tell you. Speed is not the be all and end all of road safety.

And before you start complaining about other people slamming on the brakes, if you wernt speed then you wouldnt need to worry about them coming back down to your speed ;)

Most of them slow down to way below the speed limit. In Devon there is a speed camera on a 70mph stretch of dual carriageway at the bottom of a very steep hill.

Half the people who go past the camera slam their brakes on and slow to 60mph or less when passing it. There are skidmarks everywhere.

How can it possibly be safe? It's on a dual carriageway, why do we even need it? Even people doing 70 brake for it.

Cash Generating Waste Of OUR Money is all i think when i see them.

There was an article in MCN saying that local councils were being given budgets for speed camera's so surely once you've burn't them all to death, the money will run out and they won't be able to afford putting one up ? :D

I would like speed cameras a bit more if they were outside schools and built up areas protecting young children but they stick them in the most safest places to speed where they know its going to generate money

If you mean the Tedburn junction of the A30, it's due to the fact that to get onto the westbound carrigeway, you have to go accross the eastbound. It's to make drivers able to judge the speed of the cars coming better, as there is a corner, someone could pull out, someone else could come along at 100+ and hit them.
I belive that there used to be a fiar amount of accidents, which is also why the camera went up.

There also used to be one on the hill before Sourton (if you are on the westbound), on the downhill, no reason for it, but it was there, now it's been removed though...in the last like 4 years.

actually i think i was snapped last night.
a few mph short of 40 in a 30 limit.
had a lot on my mind and wasn't putting as much effort into my driving as i should've been,
watch this space.

TbhI'd love to see all the camera's in a country should be destroyed in 1 single nation wide riot against speed camera's, to teach the governement to ban them, follow california's good example :D .

Tbh this days it's all a disgrace you have to drive so slowly everywhere.
Not even own a car yet, and still mad @ speed limits.

What car was it - what's the speedo accuracy like? 37 indicated in a 30 is probably okay. A 30 limit camera locally to has required me to do 50 indicated to set it off before! (Not in my car)
