Devastated : Go easy what would you do?

You know eurocarparts lets you put in your reg then it'll show you the right parts? You don't have to keep asking other people to find it for you! If it lists more than one grade then check your manual for the right stuff

What else do they do on oil service?

Do they do the air filter aswell ?

I wouldn't want to guess, but if I was doing an oil change then for the five quid the filter costs id just change it anyway

Yes the words "air filter" in the question gave that away. Just change it, unless there's something really backwards about BMWs design then it should be a 2 minute job - if you're going to the effort of an oil change then may as well do it at the same time

Oil service will just be an oil change and an oil filter change.

Changing the air filter and pollen filter yourself will be dead simple and the new filters are pretty cheap anyway. Not sure about the E46s but on my E90 I can change both in about 5 minutes if that.

Ok Fox you win:D

But I did have to source all the parts myself...So really it would have cost hundreds more if a garage had done it and provided the parts....so technically I'm right;):D

I know more about home cinemas and PC hardware though..You PC noob!:D

Not really as your mechanic would have sourced better prices from AP, GSF, Bullseye etc.

BS...post

For instance, you paid the crackers price of £25 for your alternator belt when a Meyle one is :

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MEYLE-V-R...018315?hash=item540b7d5e0b:g:lAIAAOSw-nZTqAUK

£7..

Or the crank pulley can be had from Gates

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-3-Ser...459666?hash=item3cfca12f92:g:TMgAAOSwHnFVhC5O

Crackheads use ECP nowadays.

See below VVVVVVV You posted this on the 26th Jan..VVVVVVVVV

Just gonna throw this out there, maybe public transport is a better option for you?

I can't see it being any fun running a car on such a shoestring budget? Or maybe downgrade to something like a Fiesta or a Toyota of some sort?

You've posted twice in this thread.First to be a smart **** ...Hardly useful...Then you come a bit to late to the party to show your search skills after the event...

I was excited when I clicked on your link after you clearly know my car has been fixed...

But guess what?

I can soak up 20 quid on a belt getting it the day I order it....(sigh)

Guess what? I can soak up 60 quid on a pulley in getting it the day I order it and picking my car up in the morning without hassle. (sigh)

Next time mate post something useful to me at the time...Not after the event...

Checked your logs....You have been active on the forums everyday since the 26th Jan...

You're post is about as useful as Fox is in the GFX card section:D

Apologies about the mechanic comment, yours may just be crap at it. I didn't enter the party earlier as I just didn't fancy explaining to someone how to attach a fan belt.

For the record Gates and I think Meyle is stocked at FPS, so Andrew Page usually gets it in the same day and their pricing is much more competitive than ECP and they'd match up those eBay prices. I'm pretty sure they're going aggressive nowadays to try and peg down ECP.

You need to chill out. Also around which post number are you discussing the pricing of the belt and crank pulley?

Thats a shame...I know plenty about PC hardware and Cinema installs and never feel a noob question is beneath me if it helps someone out..

I know nothing about cars...But I'm learning...

TBH the garage has been brilliant...

People on here said quickly that they were pulling a yarn with the pulley...

"wait until it breaks" etc...

My car sounded ******* ****

I quoted people on here to one of the technicians (mechanics) saying that I have been told to wait until the pulley fails....He laughed and and showed me the movement on the pulley and why the car was rattling etc...

So you need to now be spoon fed how to respond?

It was in my OP

Bottom pulley is badly worn which could cause the belt to come off and you will then lose power steering on your vehicle. £280

Aftermarket Crank PulleyProduct Code: 347110201 £121.99 (didn't have stock to collect at eurocarparts) when i wanted to collect...a big 40.44 more expensive than ebay your link...

Your post and link is hardly ground breaking ...

I got it done for £213 fitted

Fact is...You've decided to pop into this post and be smug...

Iv'e just highlighted that you Mr Pepsi...are coming across as a bit of a **** soz....

You have every right to be angry at me, I'd be angry to if I paid extra.

I'm not angry...

I'm happy, very happy...My car is running great.

a few quid not an issue for me...

Convenience of being back on the road priceless.

EDIT:

Is taking the wings off hard?

I'd also change..

Air filter
Plugs
Fuel filter

^These with the oil & filter is a decent service for your engine.

Pollen/cabin filter too. (This clears out dead leaves/bugs that would otherwise be rotting in your old cabin filter, so the air in the car is 'nicer' for the occupants)

Following that..

Brake fluid
Clutch fluid
Gearbox oil
Coolant

Fresh fluids/filters on a car at the recommended intervals will make it last a lot longer and be cheaper in the long run. Helps prevent mechanical failure and keeps your fuel usage in check.

The super basic and easy to do yourself from easiest to hardest are..

Air filter
Cabin/pollen filter
Oil
Oil filter

Then harder..

Plugs
Gearbox oil
Coolant
Clutch fluid
Brake fluid

(Can vary between cars)

Plenty of Youtube guides for every car!

R.E

Bad earth connection on the O/S/R Lamp unit which requires further diagnostics

I decided to have a look at this today...The OSR bulb is showing on the dash...

I got a mate to check today and all the lights are working...

Anyway I took the rear lights out from inside the boot and it looks like a wire as melted one of the metal prongs the rear electrical plug goes when you click it inside the housing...

I need some help here to fix it...I have cleaned the connection and the prongs on one side but the other side prong is melted into a stump...If that make sense.
