Devastated : Go easy what would you do?

Page didn't load correctly first time (I only saw the 2nd link correctly, thought you wanted to buy a hub+bearing kit), you most likely don't need a new hub, just the bearing.

What maniac buys tyres from a scrap yard? :P

Always buy good tyres unless you're seriously struggling financially.

Rear subframe on one of our C5's in bent and it goes through rear tyres like mad, eg. every 5000km, so basically every other month, they ''cup'' if you know what I mean, alignement can't be changed on the rear and the car will probably die in a year or so anyhow (it's reaching half a million km's) so refuse to spend big money on fixing the rear subframe. So not wasting money on good rubber if it goes to waste so quickly anyhow. Plus I have loads of big scrappy's around here I can cherry pick tyres I like.

Tbh all I care about is that they're legal and driving as cheap as possible...

So you don't care about your safety, the safety of your passengers, or the safety of other road users?

OK. Takes all sorts.

Anyway, driving a car with a bent rear sub frame which causes it to eat tyres?

...

No comment at all on that one... Probably best.

Moral high horse everywhere, if I was to believe some people on here 7 years ago I would have crashed, died, and died again numerous times, yet I manage fine despite driving a lot in many different cars. I've driven cars in far worse shape, and there are many cars on the road in far worse shape than mine.

Ahh yes, I forget. If you do something dangerous and it doesn't kill you, that means it isn't dangerous at all! :)

My mistake.

Guys quit with the squabbling...:p

Right just had email ...Garage said just the bearing kit is needed not the hub...

Just gonna throw this out there, maybe public transport is a better option for you?

I can't see it being any fun running a car on such a shoestring budget? Or maybe downgrade to something like a Fiesta or a Toyota of some sort?

Fair enough, then get a 2nd or 3rd opinion elsewhere.

Garages prey on people who have no idea about mechanics. Most garages/mehcanics are absolute scum, scamming people who don't know about their cars for repairs they don't need, or worse charging them for work that never happened (as wasn't needed).

You should also ask your indy garage to SHOW you the problems.

It took me more than 10 garages until I gave up on them altogether, I just do all the work myself now, get my MOT at neutural garages (ones that only do MOT's and no repairs, so they aren't unfair by lying something needs to be done as it's not in their interest), and I have a mechanic friend to help me for more complex stuff (eg. gearbox replacement, timing belt, get the head off). Any random garage around here is trying to shaft you, one actually told me to replace my brake discs when they were only 6 months old while I came in just to get alignment done .

Hmnn.

I have been in the motor car business for over 30 years, and you know what, I can smell customers like you a mile off! :D

When "You" phone, I am either very busy and cannot do anything for at least three weeks or make such a high estimate that in the unlikely event that you go for it, it might actually end up being worth the hassle! ;):p

I also tend to be "Busy" any time somebody with an Irish accent phones up too! (Had one just this morning actually. Non starting Ford galaxy diesel, 15 miles away. No chance, No Chance at all!!:p (Think about it, Irish accent, calling somebody well away from his patch! Hmnn)

(Am I "profiling"? Hell Yes! Experience makes it very clear that "Profiling" is actually a very sensible approach to protecting my income and avoiding bad debts)

In all seriousness. the car business is all about trust (Just like any other business) I can usually tell when somebody is starting off from a position of distrust and that is somewhere I really cannot be bothered to go. I would rather spend my time dealing with my regulars (some of whom have been my customer right from the start in the mid 80's) than have to argue the issue with somebody who is clearly a reluctant customer right from the start.

Perhaps the reason why you have ended up with all the ****** workshops is because all the decent ones have seen you coming! ;)

You'd hate my car :D

Or any car around here for that matter, most don't have treads. Most pass an MOT like that too. Takes all sorts...

Good news, saves £40!

Pays for my oil service at national tyres...

Not where I live

Plus I need a motorway car for picking my daughter up.

600 mile round trip at the weekends...No fun in a fiesta. Plus I can do Manchester to the South cave turn off on the M62 in 55 minutes on the way back when she is not in the car on a sunday 7pm ish.

And I have the money...I'm just tight with car repairs they bore me...I have no problem spending 1k on a guitar tho :p

Easyrider it's time to put the Internet down for a bit :D

I just bought a 320d for £1500, great car.

make sure to remove the swirl flaps if it hasn't been done already :p

100 quid for the wheel bearing replacement.

20 quid for the part

Bit better than £176

Is it only me that is horrified that someone is driving round in a car not fit to be on road - hope you don't live anywhere near Shropshire.

I know a complete idiot who had part worn tyres fitted from Jacko's used tyres.

Never saw him for quite a few month's - He said one of his new old tyres blew out on M54 and he rolled the car - Police also did him for drink driving.

We had dirty windows till he got a newer car and driver.
