Diablo III to Require Constant Internet Connection

I don't mind trainers and hackers if it is Offline, anyone doing that online should be taken out the back and given a rear end banging

Oh yeah totaly, but it would stop loot farmers selling stuff on the 'real world money auction house'

Surely they could have at least made an offline mode? I swear on TDU2 when you first start the game it makes you choose if you want to play online or offline. If you choose offline there's no way to convert your save to online. It would be the best of both worlds?

Sounds a lot like guild wars, people never complained about that so much.

Exactly. For games like D3 it is important that people can't hack the crap out of their characters, and spawn a ton of items.

It would destroy the game's economy, and the game balance.

Which is why this kind of security works and is fine imho.

For games like Ass.Creed and FPS games, it's stupid, as there is just no reasonable requirement in those kinds of games for a constant net connection.

So just have an offline mode like games used to have?

I dont have a problem with it. I have the internet connected constantly anyway, so its not like I'd even notice the difference. Plus it helps prevent hacks and exploits.

Did you read the article though? They don't want people hacking offline, then turning them into online characters.

yeah.. so have an offline mode like games used to.

ie you have an of line char that cannot be used online or transfer items to an online char.

Just like the other thread, I want to use the performance of my lan connection to play with the person next to me and not have it rely 100% on an internet connection.

Sure, make sure that I'm not hacking/authenticating files, see that there's an active but slowwwwwwwwwwwww connection (sometimes I'm in diff locations) but goram USE THE LOCAL NETWORK AHHHHHHHHHHH.

Tefal it's hard to know if having an offline mode would open up the game to potential hacking in the future. Like I said, I don't see this as a problem if you have an internet connection like 99% of PC gamers.

Why? Why have two kinds of characters? This way you can play on your own if you want, nothing is stopping you.

But then if you do decide you want to jump into some co-op with a friend you don't have to roll up an entirely new character, you can just bring your current one along and carry on.

It encourages more people to play online with others, and it encourages people to use online features like the auction house.

As i've said already, they are treating D3 as a CO-OP RPG/MMO, much like Guild Wars.

You can play on your own if you want, but you have to login to access your characters and to track your progress.

It really isn't a big deal, and the benefits in this case outweigh the inconvenience (of which there really isn't any, as we all have net connections on 24/7 at home anyway...)

errr why would you need to roll up a new character, if you want to play with an internet connection you could use that, but for those who don't want to play on-line could have an off line char and not have to worry about constantly being online.

There is no benefit for some clear inconvenience.

Is peoples internet really so flaky that they are worried it will mess up their gaming, if so surely a change of provider is in order?

I can't remember the last time my net was down for any period of time.

What happens when I go to a LAN to play D3? We all have to be connected to the internet? I don't think either my nor my mates' internet connection will enjoy that. I am guessing that there won't be any LAN mode anyway.

That's the entire point. You can't, and they don't want you to use an offline character online due to the potential of character hacking and item spawning, which was rife in D2.

They are attempting to keep some semblance of control over the in game economy using the tried and tested methods used on many many other MMO's since time immemorial.

It really is a non-issue. The game practically is an MMO anyway, online co op play, check, quests, check, item trading, check, leveling, check, etc etc.

It is exactly the same system that WoW, Guild Wars, Rift, LOTRO, etc all use, and not one single person complains about any of those, or worries that their router is going to explode at any moment, or that they can't play them on the beach for that one week they leave the house.

The same thing that happens when you play WoW or SC2 at a lan, you use the net.

Didn't see this coming...but I should've realised. They're really pushing B.net 2.0 and this is just a continuation of what began last summer. Just like StarCraft 2 doesn't support LAN, neither will this.

I love SC2, but mainly because of the MP experience. With this tho, it's the opposite and I' not exactly fond of having my character saves on a server rather than my PC..

What does it matter if your save is on their cloud rather than on your PC? Especially if it means locking out hacking which will ruin the game.

I like bnet and like the fact I can talk to friends cross-game.

Like I said, with SC2 it's fine as I'm more interested in the MP of that (and love it).

However, with D3, it's the opposite in that I care mainly about the SP and would prefer it offline.
