yep, although it will be amusing if/when someone ddos the auth servers like the have done with ubi's system and all the legit people can't play the game.
So say if i make a character online and i fancy playing by myself i can make a server myself and password it so people cant join?
And why do you think they'd use wow player servers to host authentication?
lulz sec didn't do it it was long before them

Ubisoft has lots of experience with launching games with always on-line DRM yet as i recall every single one has had massive problem at launch.
same as steam has lots of experience launching massive titles yet they always get hammered on launch day.
Just because they know it's likely doesn't mean they'll waste the extra 10k + to cope with it.

Aren't all Blizzard games now authenticated via battlenet, including WoW?
I'm pretty sure Ubisofts data centers aren't a patch on the ones that run the worlds largest MMORPG somehow.
The statistic behind the hardware it takes to run WoW speak for themselves imo, they're staggering.
Steam slows down certainly, but it rarely grinds to a halt for an extended period of time.Different kettle of fish though.
different kettle of fish though isn't it, the wow servers are obviously very high end and expensive but they aren't the same spec as the auth servers, would be like using an articulated lorry to do your weekend shopping.

Does on the big releases.
