Diane Abbott suspended as Labour MP after racism letter

What has this got to do with Ms. Abbott's suspension for an alleged racist incident Tony?

You and others are very keen to correct me for bringing racism into posts you deem it irrelevant to, why are you doing the converse and drawing the conversation totally away from a racist MP in the Labour party? :)

Well bringing up Corbyn is relevant because he's another racist ex Labour MP..

Jewish Voice for Labour doesn't think he's racist, or antisemitic.

Al Jazeera did a multi-part series on Starmer and pals' hatchet job on him, called "The Labour Files". Some of it is really eye-opening.

There's various Jewish factions which don't get along.

For instance one year he spent Passover with synagogue going Jewish people, but apparently they were the wrong sort because they called Israel “a steaming pile of sewage which needs to be properly disposed of"

The other fun fact is that the majority of people within Labour who had action taken against them on grounds of "antisemitism" were.... Jews!

Labour really is a cesspit.
I like to think of it as another casualty of our FPTP system.

There is no way Labour is a single party. The amount of hatred within the party between its own MPs and membership is ridiculous.

It's only held together through the necessity of doing so to remain large enough to challenge the Tories (who also are very arguably not a single party under any other system..)

Diane would get some respect if she explained what she was trying to say & show her workings out - like :
semitic/irish/traveller racism is far less prominent (and deserving of action) in the UK than coloured racism, despite its prominence in recent Labour discourse

the whole all forms of racism are equal ethos isn't true, some are more equal than others

She would still be suspended for using a hierarchy of racism.

Anything remotely controversial will be pounced upon, so the labour party will want to act first to show they are not racist.

To me its fairly logical to presume that if you are Jewish and white with a name like Bob Smith. You will have less personal barriers than if you are black and have a name like Musa Ibrahim.

That is not to say there isn't racism against Jews or that any racism should be dismissed.

But for instance blind studies have shown name alone has an impact during shortlisting for interview.

In the UK maybe, but what about Bob Smith living in South Africa? Abbott's statements were about international racism, not just at home.

A summary

hmmh if you look at the first of the gbnews Diane accusations, she signed this below on 18feb22, 6 days before invasion
or, as gbnews translates it
Abbott was then one of 11 Labour MPs to sign a letter sponsored by Stop The War that claimed the invasion was the West’s fault.

Stop the War opposes any war over Ukraine, and believes the crisis should be settled on a basis which recognises the right of the Ukrainian people to self-determination and addresses Russia’s security concerns.
Our focus is on the policies of the British government which have poured oil on the fire throughout this episode. In taking this position we do not endorse the nature or conduct of either the Russian or Ukrainian regimes.
The British government has talked up the threat of war continually, to the point where the Ukraine government has asked it to stop.
Unlike the French and German governments, it has advanced no proposals for a diplomatic solution to the crisis, and has contributed only sabre-rattling.
Indeed, Defence Secretary Ben Wallace has even accused those seeking a peaceful settlement of preparing “another Munich.”
Instead, the British government has sent arms to Ukraine and deployed further troops to Eastern Europe, moves which serve no purpose other than inflaming tensions and indicating disdain for Russian concerns.
It has also declared that Ukraine has a “sovereign right” to join NATO, when no such right exists to join it or any other military alliance.
Britain needs to change its policy, and start working for peace, not confrontation.
Stop the War believes that Russia and Ukraine should reach a diplomatic settlement of the tensions between them, on the basis of the Minsk-2 agreement already signed by both states.
It believes NATO should call a halt to its eastward expansion and commit to a new security deal for Europe which meets the needs of all states and peoples.
We refute the idea that NATO is a defensive alliance, and believe its record in Afghanistan, Yugoslavia and Libya over the last generation, not to mention the US-British attack on Iraq, clearly proves otherwise.
We support all efforts to reach new arms control agreements in Europe and to move towards nuclear disarmament across the continent.
We urge the entire anti-war movement to unite on the basis of challenging the British government’s aggressive posturing and direct its campaigning to that end above all.

who knows if invasion was predestined; but, Boris was sabre rattling for his own mis-direction ends

personally , it's the divisive/polarising statements she makes on police stop&search. or Casey institutional racism findings, which are counter productive/vitriolic
there is a vicious circle where racism becomes self fulfilling prophecy you tell people 'they' are out to get you and they believe it, like womens fear on the streets alone, keir with his latest spiking legislation proposal,
being on the spectrum, body dysmorphia, gender dysphoria .... someone is generally profiting - she has a job, Tavistock clinic, plastic surgeons ...

That quote is some serious rewriting of history. Many of those other entities were in denial while Russia was already clearly on the warpath - which can clearly be seen if you read through the Ukraine thread here in its entirety.

Anyone thinking this could have been resolved/settled by some kind of negotiation "which recognises the right of the Ukrainian people to self-determination and addresses Russia’s security concerns" is completely and utterly delusional even being generous that they might be well meaning.

EDIT: End of the day though NATO, UK, US whoever either individually or collectively was no threat to Russia - the West is far too consumed by self-interest and the trappings of the modern way of life to risk upsetting that with a war with Russia.

EDIT2: And as we've seen very sharply with this conflict - nuclear disarmament ironically works against stopping war and actually tends to clear the way for an increase in conventional conflict - not that I expect people who support/come out with that kind of stuff to have a clear and pragmatic perspective on it.

Carry out the legislation that government brings about rather than the current civil service standing in the way.

It's about things that put the UK first unless you want to pay higher and higher taxes to accommodate unlimited numbers of freeloaders.

The more accurate set of manifesto goals can actually be found here which includes reducing NHS waiting lists.

Reducing NHS waiting lists by eradicating the NHS. No NHS, no waiting lists.
