Diane Abbott suspended as Labour MP after racism letter

It's not a deflection, I've given a thorough in depth answer because you can't cherry pick one aspect and pluck it out of context with the whole potential scenario.

Of course it's a deflection. It's a simple question.

Are you accepting of the fact that persons who are ineligible to vote in any UK local or GE are able to vote on the leader of a UK political party which may, and in fact has, resulted in said leader being the UK PM?

Essentially these people have decided who leads the UK.

Do you think this is acceptable - Yes or No?

If they are members of the Conservative Party then of course it’s acceptable.

So you accept that foreign people who are not eligible to vote on UK matters are able to decide who potentially leads the UK?

You do realise how open to corruption and state interference this could be?

Do you disagree with my last point and, if so, why?

I’ve already covered that in my earlier post.

The membership have a lot less say than you seem to think.

Yes that should be obvious already from the several answers I've already given. The party was already decided by the whole electorate so the party members are only choosing the leader of a party that already won. The foreign nationals likely only make up such a small number of the overall membership anyway I don't see why it's an issue. It's right that they don't get to vote in other elections though.

The Labour party get funded by communist country funded trade unions.

I’ve already covered that in my earlier post.

Where you stated that, ultimately, they do get to vote on the new leader?

That post?

The Labour party get funded by communist country funded trade unions.

I don't agree with that however it is different from having a direct and democratic voting right to determine who may run our country when you are not a UK citizen.

Yes that should be obvious already from the several answers I've already given.

Finally an answer - @thenewoc is happy for non-UK citizens to be able to potentially vote on who runs the UK.

I think puppet leaders controlled by unions is a much bigger concern than someone from another country having a tiny say in choosing between the two best democratically elected MP’s.. but then you’re the conspiracy theorist..

I doubt much has changed since Scargill and co were accepting Russian money during the miners strikes. I expect they still had some change left over after him and some of his cronies paid off their mortgages with the funds.

The Tory members were voting on the leader for the umpteenth time. The party had already been elected by the UK electorate. So you were always going to get the same party which represents the seats where they won a majority.

Britain needs a Labour government.
first, labour needs a credible leader - not one who is trying to score points with stupid twitter campaigns,
hopefully such actions will accelerate his replacement before the critical point leading up to a GE before policies have to be declared;
the fact that people voted conservative on the basis of the Boris effect should tell labour something - learn from history, or prepare to fail again.

(snip)

I'm not a big Labour guy. But at least people know what they are about.
I have no idea what The Keir Starmer Party stands for.

I mean, it doesn't help that very shortly after taking the top job, Starmer literally said all his previous pledges and policies were null and void.

We do know that he's not much for listening to others. Party membership voted >80% to make electoral reform a policy pledge. Starmer says, "Nah, it's not for me."

So really, I couldn't even begin to guess what the Starmer Party will do if elected. Can you?

Labour might at least be able to put together some policy on policing this time around with Abbott out of the picture.

did you really just use russian money as a slur against labour?
that is hilarious.

Hard to take Yougov seriously since I found out it was founded by two conservatives.

Strangely enough there was a story about Yougov holding back a poll. I would like to preface this with this very weird bit.

This article was amended on 11 June 2022 to add an update to the subheading. As the Guardian reported on 10 June 2022, Chris Curtis retracted his comments the day after this article was published.

YouGov suppressed polling in last few weeks of the 2017 general election campaign because it was too positive about Labour, a senior former employee has said.

Chris Curtis, a former political research manager, said “everybody panicked at the backlash” to a YouGov poll suggesting there could be a hung parliament, and the firm subsequently drew back from publishing some data that showed Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour doing well. YouGov denies the allegation.

Well I'm surprised by the response by @thenewoc and @n111ck but it heartens me.

I now have two potential signatories if I start a petition for EU nationals who have right to stay in the UK being given the right to vote in General Elections. After all, they've contributed more to the entire country, not just a small fee to one Party.

Thanks guys, your attitude surprised me but I'll let you know if I draft that petition up.

Edit: I'll stop flogging a dead horse now, I've been guilty of going off on a thread tangent trying to get a straight answer. Back to Abbott talk.

What has this got to do with Ms. Abbott's suspension for an alleged racist incident Tony?

You and others are very keen to correct me for bringing racism into posts you deem it irrelevant to, why are you doing the converse and drawing the conversation totally away from a racist MP in the Labour party? :)
