why the 285 is superb for 179.99

Of course if you ignore the £150 280 existing in the first place.

The "285" should have been held back and released as the R9 370. Its performance would make sense given the naming convention pushing it down into a lower segment.

As it stands it is a more expensive side grade with extra features which are currently nothing more than marketing bullet points.

I think thats probably wishful thinking, the 290X is £330, the 290 is £250. the 780 is £310

If you think the 970 is going to be, what £220? i think your living in a fantasy.

980 Around £500, 970 around £400, or 980 £450, 970 £350 if your lucky.

The 670 was £350

I doubt it but we will see.

And here we go, a review from china:

From the chinese review:

Reason not to buy: GTX980 / 970 core area is relatively small, mature manufacturing processes, capacity should not be a problem, the cost should be lower. Although the official price GTX980 549 dollars , the dollar GTX970 329 fairly kind, but said GTX780, GTX770 will be discontinued, inventory liquidation, when there will be a larger price cuts, while GTX760 price dropped to $ 219 ......

$329 for the GTX 970 that's almost as fast as a 290X and faster than 290. Where does that leave AMD pricing when the NV card is drawing less power and has a more up to date feature set including stuff like hdmi 2.0.

IF the 970 ends up cheaper than the current 290/X price AMD will have to do something.

either they have new cards that compete up their up their sleeve or they will lower the entire range to whatever it takes. Be that £180 for the 290X, 290 £140, £120 for the 280X and £100 for the 285 be it what it takes.

One thing they can't do is sell slower and less power efficient cards, no one will buy them.

It will simply be a race to the bottom. thats all that can happen.
