Did I mess up my life?

Basically this point in my life has been the biggest CHANGE around for me really, up until now I was all set up with the plan of School, College, University, Job, House. That was the plan, got to college...I hated it, courses bored me..That was it, I was fed up with education, I couldn't take any more so I did it..I dropped out of college. Note that I didn't come out with any AS levels other than the one I got while at school, so yea, no qualifications except:

GCSEs
A iGNVQ in ICT
An AS Level in Biology

My training up until now has been as an IT Technician, I've had 2 years part time working at a local IT shop, doing things ranging from technical support and PC repairs/diagnostics to selling customers anything they come through the door for.

Its still early days at the moment and I'm searching for work. Only applied to 2 places at the moment but I'm waiting on a reply on those before I search for more. One was a BT apprenticeship in Oxford the other in Nationwide as a tech support person.

Does any one have any advice or comments on whether I've bummed up here or whether I should stick at it and keep trying? Anyone got any personal experiences that relate?

I'm getting a bit downhearted from people saying "You've screwed up this time".

I guess I just needed some feedback from the world :o

You aint messed up, if you have a talent follow it.

I got booted from college twice, four schools and no qualifications, do what you can ;)

Most people where im from are the same too tbh, just get on with life and try and get whatever you can along the way, you had uni and a house in mind? That alone says you are not a failure, if i went to college i would be called gay, why i dont know as i have a lot of respect for people who at least try and make something of themselves

im also from swindon and also a failure

dont feel bad, its what happens when you're from the hood

well actually im at uni, but im not doing too well and im pretty sure nobody will employ me...also doing a course i don't enjoy, and everyday can't comprehend the future...really depressing

Just hoping an idea pops into my head on how to make big bucks, fast.

Then i can work on solving my other problems

You're still young and have time to change things around :)

You can look for work and get experience, go back to college or do practically anything still!

We all have things that we screwed up but it doesn't matter - just try to fix it :)

What you up to now? All I want to get is a job, I'll be happy then. I'm not expecting it to be easy, I just want the chance to prove myself to employers but they see the age and they see the qualifications and it stops there :(

Wouldn't worry about it poolybit, knowing people like you like me, we'll get by. We are both uber 1337 pc geeks (and Zefan :p) but, we cba with education anymore.

Its a good point, I've got another year of free education left after this year so I guess if I fail I can always go back. Its just that fact that I hated it :( but if I get no where I'll have no choice.

You speak the truth :D :D

Getting A-levels is always a great way to start off a successful career, especially given the number of people who take them these days. Having said that, if it wasn't for you it wasn't for you I guess, and there are plenty of other ways you can make a success out of yourself.

Its unfortunate that in the AS/A2 system it is so exam driven the courses tend to be very boring. They should bring back old A-levels, when teachers actually had time to teach you why you are learning something and how what you are being taught underlies the subject rather than getting you to memorise loads of facts.

Seems like you have two options:
Go back and do A-levels, which presumably you dont want to do
or
Keep applying for things like the BT apprenticeship you applied for. There will probably be people with better educations applying for most things you are, however if you keep trying you will get something eventually if you can get your foot in the door and get an interview.

As long as your alive, your not too late for anything :) If you want to do something, then do it and dont let others infuence you, its your life, not theirs.

I modified my post, although im from the oldest urban area in Europe and is actually known as a 'ghetto' area rather then these chav'ed up kids rolling round thinking they are from NYC

I think everyone tries, to their own ability, most dont own homes, have jobs etc so what can you do. Maybe some are a product of their own enviroment?

I do nothing, never worked a day in my life. I don't want to stack no shelves and i can't get a job because of my failures, but #### it :)

Then do a different course! :p

Or go to a different college maybe?

Or keep trying for an apprenticeship!? :D

Lots of choices out there :)

Look at it this way.

If your life is screwed mine is really up **** creek with out a paddle.

I dropped out of school with 2 years more of it to go :o

Might have to join the army at this rate.

never too late to do anything. my mums in her 50's and is thinking of training to be a teacher.

my dad/mum are always saying 'believe in yourself, if you don't nobody else will'

im 25 and bumming about in retail. decided that im going to join the Police this year. had a go before and took the rejection pretty bad, even tho feedback i got was pretty positive.

Don't lose focus on what you want and where you want to be and go easy on yourself, plenty of people out their that can shoot ya down.

:)

Nothing wrong with the army, I've had lots of people I know go into it and come out saying its one of the most positive things they've done with their lives.
