I dont think they pay is all that good.
Im going to have to look into it though aswell as many other things when i can think of any

Pay isn't that good to start with, but there are ways to advance through. Many career paths to follow and stuff once your in.

Yeah, Army is a good thing, been there done that. Passed for the Royal Engineers at 16 but because of the trade i was going for, the MOD had some rule changes so i couldn't go until 18, so i kinda got messed about a lot so again, read me it

A basic thanks to everyone whose replied, its been positive. I guess its just a case of seeing where things roll from now on.

A member called Jollygreen did home schooling. Went to school for one year in yr 9 the dropped out.
Then did some coarses on networking while being a network assistant and 2 years after that hes been promoted and hes now an 18yo getting paid 30,000 pounds a year :)

All is not lost yet :D

Hehe, brilliant. I think that kinda stuff is fine if you have the self control, same as things like Open University and bits like that. All great ways to suceed if you can stick with the courses. One of my biggest problems was just not going to lessons or doing work :o

I had the same problem.
All it took was a single bug to walk past the table and all my attension went to that :o
Its not because i have any learning difficulty or attension span problems, its just because being stuck in a class listening to teachers dribble on bores me to death along with the school work

I definately know where your coming from.

I can't pay attention to the rubbish that comes out of their mouths, just doesn't interest me. Thats basically why I dropped out - so I could follow a more practical route to making a living.

Yea definately, theres a load of useful information on the internet and I'll happily absorb anything that interests me. Its given me a fairly wide knowledge on bits and bobs. Helps me with what I wanna do rather than teaching me about stuff I'm never going to use.

Everything i have ever learnt is from my computer/internet/life i only put the very basic knowledge down to Primary School, where i was in 60% within the 10 years

its coming back to the whole thing of "graduate from the university of life". You get a completely different education from living your life, thats all I'm doing at the moment, living what I can to the fullest before I can't any more. And you do learn a lot from it, its just not the government approved learning scheme.

Seriously though Pooly, it's not hard getting a job - even if it is shoddy as hell it's better than nothing and lands you with some experience I guess. More or less in the same boat as you change wise. I had no idea I'd be where I am now, I thought I'd be going to uni etc etc etc. Hope it works out for you bud :(

Agreed.
I can build a computer if i want with no hassle at all.
I can do more things on them then even some qualified people can.
But because i taught my self and dont have qualifications its just not good enough

The non enjoyment of education thing, I know what you mean tbh, I did college, hated it and didn't want to go to university. So I went into full time employment as an IT guy at an Accountancy Firm, man did I get annoyed with it fast! Stuck with the job for over a year however while I sorted out my uni stuff and now I'm at uni hating 1/4 of the course that I gotta do here!

My advice would that you should really try to find something that you enjoy, which in your case would be computing as it seems, go to college, try to get A levels in Computing / IT and some other subject/s you know you will enjoy and maybe after that join the army and go into something like telecomunications :)?

Just an idea ;)

The fact is a degree and qualifications shows an employer the LEVEL to which they can train you. It doesn't matter usually what your degree's in (Unless a very specialised job), just as long as you can study to that depth.

Cheers mate, I can always get a retail job doing this and that but I'd rather go into the IT career, its just getting into it :( . Best of luck with your situation, you'll pwn life :D Just get going :p

similar situation to the OP here :(

School -> crap highers (scottish A levels :p)
Uni -> Wrong kinda course (Software when I wanted Hardware)
College -> Crap crap tutors and eventually dropped out with depression :(:(
Now -> Stuck in retail at Morrisons :(

Really really need to get some motivation to dig out of this pit. Really couldn't care for education anymore either as they teach you to pass an exam :/
