Diet suggestions

Don't bother with diets!

I lost 3 stone last year (15stone>12stone). All I did was reduce my calorie intake slightly and add in a little bit of exercise. Each week I lost atleast 2lbs and the best part was I still had the weekly curry, chinese and kebab! :p

Yeah, it apparently binds fat to it so the fat (not all, but enough) enters your digestive tract and passes through naturally instead of being metabolised into fat cells and stored.

It's not really a milk thing, it's a calcium thing, it binds to fat so you absorb less, the guy on the program absorbed half as much fat on a high dairy diet compared to a no dairy diet.

Its only been shown to work with dairy calcium as far as I'm aware though, so dont go banging down calcium pills like their going out of fashion and hope it has the same effect :p

Eat a low carb diet. Have meals on regular intervals, 4-5 a day but of smaller proportions for each meal. Do HILT exercises on bikes and high resistance training. Drink lots of water and get enough sleep.

Surely those saying "i havn't dieted I just changed to low-carb" is in fact a diet.

As stated I don't see how I eat unhealthy, yes theres the cheese toasties I can cut out on, change from white to wholemeal bread (or maybe at least 50/50 in the mean time)

A deit is a short term thing, usually you need to change the way you eat for ever, rather than a quick fix.

If you think you eat healthy it may well be portion size. It is well worth using a calorie counter for a couple of weeks, just to see what you are consuming, you might be very surprised at the results.

Quit drinking until you're down to your goal weight, and:

Just cut down on Carbs, eat more lean protein, drink skimmed milk with your meal, exercise more, eat bigger in the morning, plenty of protein for Breakfast, scrambled eggs, baked beans, lean ham and the like. eat smaller for the rest of the day.

Iam currently downloading an android calorie counter app. Will start tomorow.

And I dont really drink, once a month and then I get bored and head home. I've gone past that stage in my life.

My girlfriend's on the Dukan diet - similar but less extreme to the atkins diet.
Weight watchers recently changed to value carbs higher in points.

Basically carbs and high fat foods are what you need to concentrate on. As mentioned above don't cut out all dairy, but look at skimmed milk, low fat yoghurts and low fat cheese.

Try to do 30 mins vigorous exercise a day - running, cycling, whatever else you like to do. 30 minutes really isn't a lot out of 24 hours, if you're serious about losing weight.

By the way, the bbc diet show people referred to is pretty good. It can be watched here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00ksh7c/10_Things_You_Need_to_Know_About_Losing_Weight/

July last year I cut down my intake of things like chocolate, sweets and crisps to pretty much nothing.

I am an extremely fussy eater, so any sort of set diet wouldn't work with me. I just made sure to start eating things that weren't in my diet which I knew I liked, such as having raw carrots in my lunch instead of a bag of crisps, and grapes instead of chocolate.

I also went from a few pints of coke a day, to 1 pint of coke a day (always with dinner), and the rest of the time I drink water, or on an odd occasion I would have juice.

Without any addition of exercise I managed to lose 1st 6lb by October time.

I also had 1 day a week (and still do), where I get a takeaway like a KFC meal or something. Over christmas I've been eating chocolates, sweets, doughnuts etc etc but I am now cutting them out again for the new year.

Run 5k every other day, even if you can't do 5k at first (it took me a while, if you have an iPhone or android check out the C25K (couch to 5k program)) it will become easy and you'll not only burn through your weight but feel less hungry after exercise, you'll naturally eat less, at least that's the way it worked with me. I went from 15 stone of fat to around 12 stone of normal fat/muscle.

Great food plan there, although I wouldn't personally have survived with so little food for breakfast on gym days (I go first thing). I've been on something similar since September last year and it really does work if you stick to it.

Weighing out your food is a must and will give you a good idea of your intake.

I have to confess though, I am getting quite tired of cottage cheese!

Well breakfasts Iam happy to eat porridge, which I've read is basically good for dieting as it fills you up but doesnt include anything bad/fatening, although I do have a drizzle of honey with it.
Looking into getting ea active for the wii, as gym is...well too self concious and I have bad legs/hips/lower back so likes of running is out of question. As even walking around the shops can leave me in agony.

Swtich any carbs you need to keep to wholemeal/low gi stuff such as brown pasta/rice basmati rice, oats, sweet potatoes, cous cous etc.
Avoid stuff labeled as low fat because when they take out the fat they need to add something in to keep that nice mouth feel and texture which is normally cheap high gi carbs, go for the natural full fat versions and eat less.
Get plenty of lean meat(chicken breast, extra lean mince) and fiberous veggies in your diet with good fats coming from olive oil, nuts, fatty fish.
Most importantly stock up on herbs and spices once you learn what you like and what goes with what you can make even the most boring meal of chicken, rice and veg taste awesome

That's one awful diet plan! It's devoid of any decent fats and is too high in carbs, all this diet will succeed in doing is raising blood insulin levels which directly drives body fat storage and causes constant hunger due to it's lowering affect on blood sugar.

Here's mine. Compliment with as much fruit as you like

Fruit is one of the worse foods to eat for those wishing to lose weight as the fructose spikes blood insulin levels which in turn will lower blood sugar and create hunger. To shed body fat lowering blood insulin is vital. Good fruits would be avacado and berries in limited quantity.

To the op'r,eat a traditional/non-processed food diet, cut out refined sugars and carbs of all types.

Eat all meats/fish/eggs/raw dairy if you can get it,raw cheese is quite easy to find nowadays, raw meaning (unpasteurized) and good fats and oils such as Butter,Lard, tallow, coconut oil, olive oil. Eat vegetables but not starchy ones such as potatoes, stick to fibrous veg such as Broccoli, cabbage, spinach, cauliflower etc.Avoid pasta and rice especially refined types as again these will spike insulin levels.

So basically just eat Meats,fish,eggs,non-processed fats, vegetables and salads of all kinds, but not root vegetables (those that are grown below ground as they have high sugar content). Avoid fruit other than avacados and limited quantities of nuts and berries.Drink plenty of fresh water and limit caffeinated beverages.

Get some type of exercise that you enjoy,no need to go crazy, just good regular brisk walks in the fresh air will do,no need to involve yourself in anything that you don't enjoy.

Most of all ignore the food faddists with all of their low fat diet crap! low fat diets are extremely damaging in the long run and are completely useless for weight loss! we need good fats in our diet. Good luck mate.

Its all about moderation. I have been eating healthier for the past 3 months. I have consistently lost 2lbs per week. I am now over one and a half stone lighter than when i started. I eat a small portion of fruit everyday.

I even lost 3 lbs over christmas, because my habits/knowledge were better about eating the right things. A small portion of fruit with some good protein and healthy fats, as a snack meal will do no harm

Edit* sorry, just seen you were responding to 'eat as much fruit as you like'. Tend to agree then, not a good idea.
