Difference between Costa, Starbucks and Cafe Nero

As for the coffee itself, I actually prefer the taste of Starbucks. Not sure there's actually much in it though.

To take this a bit further, take a look at where Costa, Startbuck and Nero position their coffee makers. If there at the front of the service desk then server is available to interact with the customer, placed behind the customer can watch how the barrister prepares the drink.
Neros: This seems to be marketed at proper coffee drinkers. Their USP is their 'Italian Quality Coffee' and this is compounded by the largely limited menu which contains mostly espresso based drinks. They do have some milkshakes in the fridge which they will blend. The customer also seems to be more mature. It's not a 'cool place' to take your Instagram shots as such. Marketing is non-existent.
Starbucks: they aim for the younger crowd. They make drinks which will appease everyone. They have excellent marketing skills and know how to build hype around their drinks (Rainbow Frappe). It is very much a place to hang out and 'be cool' and take photos. You won't find many individuals having espressos or long blacks etc in there. I think they've nailed the dessert type hot drink market and frappe market.
Costa: somewhere between the two. They make good coffee. They offer frappes, smoothies, iced drinks. They have decent marketing campaigns. They vary the menu.
I don't think it will for a while. This country for a long time has considered what coffee is to = instant or supermarket filter coffee. The public has now been exposed to what great coffee tastes like and they enjoy (through various independent specialist coffee shops which have cropped up everywhere). I don't believe it is a fad. Yeah, there are probably those drinking coffee to be cool and will move on but coffee has surged in popularity and has remained consistent and growing over the last 10 years. It's not particularly expensive, especially in comparison to a pint, which is a lot of the market share coffee has taken. It's not as socially acceptable to go for a few pints at lunchtime with colleagues as it would have been many years ago, this now now been replaced catching up for a coffee, holding meetings at coffee shops etc.

I find Costa's coffee the best for my taste, it just feels 'right' - silky and smooth, it's also the most consistent I find; Starbucks often tastes a bit more watered down, and the quality fluctuates massively from experience - some of the ones I had in NYC were rank! Cafe Nero I find are stronger tasting, nice still, but sometimes I want a coffee cuddle, not a punch in the face - hence opting for Costa mainly 
All overpriced though - it's a treat really, especially as I know that the vending machine type Costa's actually cost 7 pence! Having done the IT support for them some years back.

Thought that was disproved - recall seeing the scandal in 2015... either way, we're being scammed on the price anyway, so wouldn't surprise me if it's true.
I've no idea, I get regular anyway as large is too much for me.

I gave up drinking a tub of coffee at £3.50 a chuck. I bought a jar of of Carte Noire for £2 from the pound shop, some brown sugar for a quid and coffee mate for £2.50. This lasts at least two weeks.
fixed, I don't understand the obsession with coffee shops and consuming so much caffeine, then again I did give caffeine up a while ago and it makes such a difference which you just don't realise when drinking tons of it.
Coffee mate urgh, one of our clients when you go offer you a drink (which is more than most) but their tea ends up being some hybrid of coffee mate and tea from a machine.

You'd be McSurprised! McDonalds coffee is actually pretty tasty too and isn't anywhere near as expensive.
