That is TERRIBLE.

Oh well, look at OFP: DR for example of how a similiar system works/Does not work ;)

I was going to get this and skip L4D2 till after Christmas. Meh, will be getting L4D2.

at least ofp2 makes up for it with its awesome editor tool :D

That's poor form given the comedy pricing they've imposed. Another decent game neutered due to the limitations of the Xbox 360s online play.

I'll still be getting it for the single player experience, will maybe hold off until the price drops though...
It's a bit grim neutering the part of the game that many will be buying it for.

Finally a boycott that people can agree. This news is shocking. PC users host and pay for our servers all they have to do is make sure it can work. Why on earth would the sabotage the game like this. Some might think they want to get low sales to justify not bothering next time huh ... ;)

When I saw the thread title, I thought "Wow... People are only boycotting MW2 because there was a boycott for L4D2 and people were jumping on the bandwagon..."

But holy hell, I am angry about this. This was my most anticipated game for such a long time, absolutely shocking. Why on earth would they remove the dedicated server support? How utterly ridiculous.

well its bit strange , rather pc be delayed then not fully done.

but then if there is a lot steam support maybe they trying to do some kind dedicated server system with steam something like tf 2 and cs:s works , as they said there's no PB but there is VAC.

Maybe the game is using Steamworks?

Have they said for certain that "There are no Dedicated Servers"?

EDIT:

Ignore me, they did. Oh, dear.

I've been listening to the interview and he said that exactly. There will be no dedicated servers. Also, when asked if there will be support in the future Rob Bowling evaded the question.

LOL the whole reason of me getting a new PC is because of this game. Ohwell. Ill just be sticking to cod 4 on maximum settings instead on my new pc.

I thought it would be pretty obvious. It is so that they can ensure only legitimate copies get played online. By allowing others to host servers it makes it easier for them to get around that. It is an anti piracy move.

Realistically, though, out of the 14million copies of COD4 that were sold, how many of them were the 'hardcore PC gamers' that this move will affect?

I see it's "pretty obvious" that this move will only make MW2 THE most pirated PC game ever, they have wrecked the MP so no incentive to purchase tbh.

As true as that is to be honest :(

If anything pro gaming is growing, and shooting itself in the foot by cutting out the most important thing that the 'hardcore gaming' community needs, with the biggest game to ever be released just seems a bit odd.

Seems like CS is the only true pro game lol :D

So, who is putting their "Money where their mouth is" so to speak and NOT buying this game?

Add me to the list.

I'll have L4D2 to keep me entertained.

Remember, Activision are likely the ones who green lighted this so blame them, not I.W

Is it possible that public matches have no dedicated servers but private ones do and this has been taken out of all context?

Although IWs silence is deafning.

Im going to email Activision.
