You're playing through the game without paying for it. Same thing as pirating really.

Only a few more days...im so excited......

In a few days all the kiddie morons who flocked back to BF2 after 1.5 and ruined it again with their TK'ing, radio spamming, nade spamming, etc,etc.etc. will have a shiny new toy called MW2....

They can all go annoy each other online and leave the rest of us to BF2....

Bliss.

Get off your high horse.

If its one thing that annoys me about pc gaming is how snobbish some of you guys can be.

What would make you think the 360 version being pirated has any bearing at all on how much the PC version will be pirated? You realise they're two seperate platforms right?

He didn't say anything about it having any relation to how much the PC version will be pirated, it's about IW saying that IW.NET was to help reduce piracy, yet their beloved Xbox is probably now the most pirated xbox game and it hasn't even been released yet.

The PC version will get pirated hard anyway, and you're hardly making a stand by pirating it because unless you intend to send IW a letter with a photograph of your burned DVD or whatever they will be (largely) none the wiser. Way to stick it to them by doing something they will have no specific knowledge of and will already assume is going to happen anyway!

I dont think those pirating it care if IW know or not, aslong as they dont get their money, that's all that matters.

Added to which assuming for a moment they could track every single person who pirated it and somehow match it against how disgruntled that person was (i.e. they're "only pirating it because they are unhappy with multiplayer, but happy enough with the rest of it to go to the trouble of pirating it at all") all it would do is add more fuel to the "PC piracy killing gaming" statistics and give them more justification to alienate the PC crowd in favour of consoles. It's a self-defeating act.

Well considering what they've done to the game, and what they've said about PC gamers, as far as i'm concerned they can go **** themselves. I hope they do stop making games for the PC, as i'll never buy anything made by them again, and all they'll do if they continue is make more companies follow their model, which is worse than the MP games we had over a decade ago.

If you're going to pirate it, pirate it - but don't pretend that by doing so you're somehow going to convince IW/Activision of anything other than the fact that piracy is as big a problem as they already think it is.

I don't think anyone is pirating it to convince them to add DS and all the other stuff missing, they're doing it to **** IW off.

Do stores that sell second hand games give any money back to the developers of those said games? If not then you can simply buy the game off your mate for 1 p then sell it back to him for 1 p when youre done with it. :)

Not if it's linked to a Steam account, which it may be

Didn't come across as snobbish to me, just a comment about immature kids playing games.

Except the 360 version doesn't use IW.Net, IW.Net is intended (among other things) to reduce piracy on the PC platform. As to how successful it'll be - time will tell.

I don't think anyone is pirating it to convince them to add DS and all the other stuff missing, they're doing it to **** IW off.
Yes but as I said how will it **** IW off exactly when they will be none the wiser to it? They'll just see loads of people downloading the torrent - which would've happened anyway - and figure "oh well PC piracy is just as bad as we already figured it was". There's no logical connection between those numbers and who would otherwise have bought it, and as such there's no meaningful statistic to learn from it, therefore pirating it thinking "they'll think twice next time about omitting dedicated servers or leaning!" is dumb.

All you're doing is adding +1 peer to a torrent, they don't know whether you're downloading it simply because it has no dedicated servers or whether you had no intention of buying it anyway, and ultimately all it will do is make them (and other companies watching it) figure consoles are the way forward.

Except the 360 version doesn't use IW.Net, but don't let that little fact get in the way of some ranting. Perchance IW.Net is intended to reduce piracy on the PC platform?

I thought the whole matchmaking system was done through IW.net, regardless of platform

Because you're depriving the company of revenue either way. That's why.

Doing it that way you don't become part of the 'Downloaded: 34,238' statistic on a torrent tracker.

However, main problem being use of Steamworks and likely tying to Steam accounts so it'll likely be too much hassle to 'lend' out games.

They wont be playing MW2, its an 18 so they cant ;)

I blame irresponsible parents :D

A good thing someone suggested is make a list of those who want it for SP, someone buy it, then it gets sold on to the next person for the same price + delivery, then when they're done it gets sold to the next person for same price plus delivery so so and so on until everyone's had it then the last person can sell it to anyone who wants it or flog it on ebay or something :D

At the end send the results to IW :p

Well if he isnt going to buy the game and he is going to borrow his mates copy then he might as well pirate. You pay for the licence for one machine not the game so that you can lend it out to your mates.
;)

Using that same logic, if I bring a Wii game over to my friends to play with a larger group of friends, we may as well have just pirated it as it's no different.

They have made the game for noobs, yet noobs still won't buy it as noobs will be ushered away from it by game workers saying their pc won't be high enough spec to run it, same thing happened with crisis, you'd try to buy it and the guy would say it won't work lol

using the same logic, somebody bought mw2 to rip it, he is just sharing it to the pirate community of which he considers his friends!
