I thought the whole matchmaking system was done through IW.net, regardless of platform
360 already has matchmaking built in doesn't it via Live? (I don't have one so speculating). I'm fairly certain IW.Net is a new development purely for the PC platform on the basis that IW keep saying it's actually cost them money to implement over using dedicated server code.

Do you realise that's an American law site, and therefore pretty much irrelevant?

I dont know of a good UK site I can link to to prove the same principle, so I'll leave that for someone else.

Yeah, couldnt be arsed to find it though as they are pretty similar law wise im guessing they are the same so im not saying for certain they are.

I didnt know that tefal, is it an on going fee they pay or just a one off?

using the same logic, somebody bought mw2 to rip it, he is just sharing it to the pirate community of which he considers his friends!

How is that the same?
In your example, the person is creating a distributable digital copy of the game (and they'll need to crack the protection on the cd to get it to play. They're then sharing that with many many people they don't even know.

In my example, I'm bringing the original cd I paid for over to a friends place to play with people I know. No additional copies are being made and the game is only being played on one system at any given time.

I think IW will get the message that people are pirating the game because of the faux par they committed in not having dedi servers and no lean. That and the fact that they are consistently brushing the arguments under the carpet.
They really won't need to have letters accompanying pics of pirated disks, they'll know.
I won't buy it.....i'll happily accept a copy from somewhere, i won't feel bad about it, despite what some of the moral police on here say, and i'd love to tell IW why, but the main point, as with many, will be that IW won't get my money.... **** 'em! They tried to *** us!

i think it's one off when they buy the book.

I don't get the whole dedicated servers thing, does the developer have to provide the servers hence the cost and hence the reluctance to do so.

Back in my TFC days, clans/punters had to pay/provide servers (£15 /month) or so and then they let people play on them.

Confused.....

No, they don't have to provide the servers.

To sum up the last 38 pages of hatred....

MW2 doesn't have the *facility* to setup a dedicated server, paid for by a clan, team, or just a bunch of friends, or whoever.
So you cant "play on your favourite server" because the game cant support them - IW built it this way, which is quite dumb.

I have spent 90% of my COD4 gaming on one server, i really like the server and people who play on it, this just plain sucks.

Really leaving the door open for BF2 and any other games that come along....

++hatred!

Someone in IW will get fired over this. I'm sure.

Either that or IW simply don't care about the PC gamer anymore. Let's face it are there many game developers who do?

Except the 360 version doesn't use IW.Net, IW.Net is intended (among other things) to reduce piracy on the PC platform. As to how successful it'll be - time will tell.

Meh, i dont know if the 360 will use IW.Net or Live, but that isn't the point. The point is that they've butchered the PC game into something that is worse than a decade ago all in the name of piracy and how IW.NET is the answer, yet the Xbox gets pirated, before the game is even released too, yet they get a game with the same features as every other xbox CoD game.

Yes but as I said how will it **** IW off exactly when they will be none the wiser to it? They'll just see loads of people downloading the torrent - which would've happened anyway - and figure "oh well PC piracy is just as bad as we already figured it was". There's no logical connection between those numbers and who would otherwise have bought it, and as such there's no meaningful statistic to learn from it, therefore pirating it thinking "they'll think twice next time about omitting dedicated servers or leaning!" is dumb.

All you're doing is adding +1 peer to a torrent, they don't know whether you're downloading it simply because it has no dedicated servers or whether you had no intention of buying it anyway, and ultimately all it will do is make them (and other companies watching it) figure consoles are the way forward.

This just makes no sense at all. You can't honestly think that IW don't know that a lot of people pirating the game will be those unhappy about the multiplayer, sure they won't come out and say this, they can't, but they know.

Any other method of showing that you're not happy with their decisions is pointless, the petition is pretty much meaningless with people signing multiple time, people signing then buying the game anyways. The amount of sigs is just as meaningless as the amount of people that download it, only piracy obviously annoys IW enough that they're willing to cripple a game to try and reduce it (yet only make it worse...), so I'd say piracy will do more in this case than not buying/downloading it.

I presume IW are well aware just how much this game is currently being pirated on the xbox 360?

I doubt it's to do with that.

You will hardly have to have 360 support forums with complaints about different screen size different GPUs diferent CPUs having to scale the graphics for different PC setups having to offer screen size option from 600*480 - 1900-1080. PS3 XBOX 360 720p is all you need to know just put the disk in and it will play. Oh and an added bonus you can sell the game for 30% (on average) more than the PC version.

I am a PC gamer but can fully understand the lure of console only developing.

It directly costs IW almost nothing to include dedicated servers. All it would take is a few hours/days of developer time to implement something that they have done many times before.

However IW don't like PC gamers ("nerds") so they have removed dedicated servers and mod capabilities.

In doing so they lose some sales (dedicated gamers, people who only pay for online games and pirate single player games) but they don't really care because they think they'll make more money with IW.net.

Do mods not post in this thread, the piracy talk is unreal in here, console section is piracy talk free.

It's full of people talking about the irony of the game being pirated to console already before its release date...

Quite honestly? I hope it fails and becomes the most pirated title of 2009. For no other reason than the contempt shown to much of the gaming community. It's about money not a passion to bring out a quality piece of software for all to enjoy.

no that's stupid.

You are making it personal when it isn't.

they care about money, they believe this system will make them money, they do not have some mad vendetta aggression you.

Piracy talk?

You mean people openly admitting that they will pirate it, or just people saying that it will be pirated? Because I don't see the problem with the latter.

People showing their intention to pirate it certainly isn't the wisest move but I am sure the mods will see that there is some emotion behind peoples' comments and that they can't always be taken seriously.

This game deserves to implode just based on the general attitude to gamers in general, not just PC "nerds". We are here to be exploited, IW and Activision know it. You just have to choose whether you wish to be exploited or not.

The closer it gets to release date and the more I read about what has gone on the closer I get to cancelling my pre-order.
