Digg.com - Modern Warfare 2 boycott.

I do most of my gaming through the 360 now but I was a hardcore CS player for years, also dabbled in the COD series. The replies to the questions presented by Mackey from IW and the whole attitude from IW in regards to the PC game is sickening.

The scary thing is, COD is still going to be the biggest selling game this year and that is only going to fuel future game developers to go down this road and shaft PC users.

:*(

The petition mentions nothing about boycotting the game. Not to mention the number of fraudulent votes.

No but i was assuming that MP was the reason most of them would by the game.

Also you seem to be judging IW's losses from the retail price, which is no where near what IW/activision gets paid for each game by the shop.

No i said less certain amounts. $ are still $

Pirates on PC? The torrent for the 360 version has been up for well over a week, theres nothing for the PC yet. They close it down next time round for PC they'll have to do the xbox as well as I surspect there wont be much in it.

Currently 775 are seeding one version of MW2 for the 360 (there are at least 3 more less popular) and there are 3799 Leeching it. Thats a lot of 50 quids being pirated

Day by day, I'm getting more and more glad that I cancelled my Pre-Order... The lack of dedicated servers was enough for me..

And now all this :( I remember when IW actually cared about the community (the Winter Crash map on Cod4)

Bad, bad times.. :p

A lot of it seems to be aimed at the "snobbish" PC gamers who look down on console owners for gaming on inferior hardware, rather than the whole PC community.

This needs to be got rid of.

What should happen is that games be hosted that console and PC gamers can join. Would be a nice way to see who is 'inferior' maybe have a nice console vs pc gamers team game or something :) (no autoaim allowed and same settings for both obviously)

xbox 360 can use mouse and keyboard then, or pc use controllers? It is just the hardware we are talking about right?

I remember doing this in Quake 3 Arena against Dreamcast players. It didn't end well.

I think I had something like 10 gauntlet kills after 2 minutes.

:D

After all this boycott talk I wouldn't be suprised if the next CoD becomes a console-exclusive "due to piracy" if IW decide they don't want the PR hassle.
I don't think it's to do with console hardware. More style of play.

E.g. my colleagues can kick my butt on beat em ups or whatever they're called, primarily through button bashing. Try that on a pc game and you'll get raped. Similarly MW on an Xbox wasn't an enjoyable experience for me.

I remember something similar when joining "joystick only servers". Hilarious right up to the point where you get kicked for obviously using a mouse and being 50 frags ahead :p

From ArsTechnica. :D

Man, I just can't believe what drivel this guy is speaking.

"It increases the overall quality of the game... I mean, you have non-laggy games, smoother gameplay..." - How is P2P possibly going to be non-laggy and smooth?

"...the learning curve of learning how to get used to a server list" - Rubbish. Utter, utter rubbish. I think as someone mentioned a few pages back (or in another thread): anyone who has the intelligence to install the game in the first place will be able to cope with a server browser. Learning isn't even a factor; it's just commonsense.

People have done fine up until this point.

" If it's not broken, don't fix it "

If they turned round and said "We just want to make more money", I wouldn't mind so much. It's their retarded attempt at trying to convince us all that their choices are for our benefit. It's BS!

OMG - lag free!?!? Does he know about the tech?

If, and only if, I heard reports of low lag in the game, would I consider for a moment buying this game. I don't know how that will happen, however I will 'wait and see'.

Found both with some gamers, i.e. slating some consoles for inferior quality graphics to the PC or with the controller method. Liked gaming on both just haven't got round to deciding what console I want yet.

I think the IWnet setup is more to get us to pay for the DLC map packs etc that they wanted to do with CoD: WaW. The "balance" will mean it'll be easier for them to develop the maps and any other add-ons so the experience is the same on all platforms. PC gamers are just used to having all the free mods/maps and expect continued patch support without paying for it.

Part of me is convinced that most publishers are trying to kill off the pc as a gaming platform.

The fact is pc games have always been superior to the consoles and most of the time a console received a poor port of a pc game.

I cant believe that the developers who started on games for pc are going to abandon their fanbase just so they can shift more copies of a game on a console.

This is a sad day for all pc gamers! :(
