Part of me is convinced that most publishers are trying to kill off the pc as a gaming platform.

The fact is pc games have always been superior to the consoles and most of the time a console received a poor port of a pc game.

I cant believe that the developers who started on games for pc are going to abandon their fanbase just so they can shift more copies of a game on a console.

This is a sad day for all pc gamers! :(

Yes but why would they want to leave the PC. Is it because consoles are cheaper to develop for? I realise piracy is a factor but there is piracy on the 360 too and also resales on console games are a lot higher than they are for PC.

Sales on consoles are typically much greater than those of the PC. There are exceptions, especially when a game has good multiplayer, but you will find the majority of console sales outstrip those of the PC by quite a margin. Whether you put that down to piracy, community size or community tastes is anyones guess.

it simple console sells more units nothing else . all other crapola is spin . if they just port the same version on the pc it means basically no cost plus millions more sales for same game.

its not good for pc gamers but it makes them there millions .

Do you think we're in the last days of PC Gaming then?

No people have talked about the end of PC gaming since the beginning just like anything else (like the end of the world for example) and if anything its growing

Im still buying MW2 I want the campaign and the specialist mode as for the multiplayer I will still be playing it I have no concern for the lack of servers that my game will be laggy or the 18 players is too limited 18 players is great for the size of maps that MW2 has and when I used to play COD4 on x360 a long time ago there were no real lag issues the only problem would be the host leaving but as we have been show it is no longer a problem because a new host is picked without ending the game

As for the lack of servers not being able to give us mods, admins to kick people etc and clans to dualing it out privately it is slighlty dissappointing but these do not affect me so I have no problem with it, I see the whole PC multiplayer as a mixed bag it will be good and bad :D but remember guys the world is not going to end!

I think PC gaming is going through a rough patch just now. When companies like IW realize just how important it is to not port console games to pc, we will start seeing the pc market get some respect again.

Look at capcom for example. They learned their lesson from Resident Evil 4 and made Resi 5 actually playable on the pc instead of just porting the console version.

PC gaming is not as profitable as consoles. If they make the game from consoles they make a lot of money. It now costs quite a bit to make it good for the pc (so many different variations, different drivers etc etc) for a lot less profit and lot more risk, you have to question whether it is worth it economically. Most companys that also produce games for pc and consoles could cut out pc and function fine and make lots of money still. Sometimes the extra risk of producing it for pc is not worth it.

although, obviously they should carry on taking teh risk and doing a proper job.

I miss the feeling of having quality titles on the pc that will never be released on a console (jedi knight, original alien vs predator ect). nowadays most games are released across all platforms.

I didnt mean in my previous post that the days of pc gaming are numbered I was just saying that there will now be fewer pc only games with quality that would surpass anything a console can do.

you say that, but why so many horror stories where the game will work on someones machine but not someone elses etc. There is a lot of work that goes in to make sure it works on the vast majority of machines. You also have the problem of the gfx demand.
Consoles are pretty good now and for a pc to be as good as a console you still need a half decent rig, my 1 year old £500 laptop struggles with newer game even on lower settings, i wouldn't even think of getting MW2 for it, if i get it, then it i will be at reduced cost because i know i only have 4months of the year to play it on my gaming pc at home.

My point above does kind of contradict why pc have gone user-friendly! The common noob with his home pc running word 97 won't be able to use this game anyway, so why do they need match making?

Moriarte: Ignoring IW.net, is the PC version a direct port of the console version?

Mackey-IW: No, PC has custom stuff like mouse control, text chat in game, and graphics settings.

We get to customise graphics Y0! ...I cant do anything for even facepalm fails me.

This cant be the same team that made CoD4... can it?

Can you explain what any of this has to do with them removing dedicated servers?

If they were that worried about conflicts and stuff not working on certain machines then they wouldn't put the game out at all. Removing the servers is a retarded and unjustified move.

The way I see it is a lot of hassle on there part (infinity ward) for next to nothing gain I mean there not going to loose out from sales by having dedicated servers just because its a little harder to use the browser list

It was just a waste of their resources really for nothing and they will loose sales now which is a shame

xbox don't have dedicated servers. IW don't want to spend money on devs incorporating it into the system and would rather port the model they already made.

Money, money money... DLC is where gaming is at... nothing else matters, they're getting away with it now that console gamers are picking up the tab, and if a few pc gamers do the same everything is good all round...
