The thing I don't understand about MP is where/how the games are hosted? Is IWNET just a matchmaking system or does it provide hosting for the games (8v8 max?) too?

IW.net is matchmaking, whoever starts a game becomes the host and the game plays off his net connection, so look forward to seeing tons of laggy servers with the host denying he's dloading porn.

So the host can end the game whenever he wants? Servers will be going up and down way too often. Does the host also get admin rights on kick/ban?

This sounds a lot like how console games work, right?

Far as im aware host gets admin rights yup. Pretty much exactly how a console game works :(

They have some new gimmick in it that if a host disconnects the game freezes and it puts you into a different server on the same map in the same locations, pretty much like someones paused the game for a few seconds then it resumes. Theres a vid on it in this thread somewhre i think.

Ah right, thanks. It's becoming clearer now, although it still sounds like a very clunky way of doing things. Maybe in a few years when everyone has super-fast upload it might work, and maybe if you are organising a private game with a few friends it's good, since you don't need to buy a dedicated server.

For the rest of us it sounds atrocious.

the person who starts the matchmaking process doesn't even host, the game selects the person who it "thinks" will be best. You don't think we would be able to handle such a complicated situation as to who hosts do you ? Whilst this puppy gives you a 400 ping as the bloke hosting it is in Beirut, try to remember that this is an "improvement"

This.

Also if you are playing late at night expect to be put in lobby full of Americans with no chance due to your **** connection.

Ala consoles....
