DirectX 11 to come in 2009

Its the same with all DX10 cards, not good with DX10, best DX9 cards out.

But to be honest, are we really missing out not being able to play DX10 games with decent frame rates, Crysis in XP can look just as good with a simple hack and the COH DX10 changes bring nothing to the game.

I remember when i bought my 8800gtx card not that long after they came out (paid about £330 i think) and people on these forums said they would wait until either the second gen dx10 cards were out or until the 2900 series hits the shelves.

Yeah as they wanted them for Dx10, which the first gen Dx10 cards are no good for, they should only be bought for Dx9, buy Dx10 cards when we have cards that can run it, and we have a decent amount of Dx10 games, we aint got either yet, and were about a year on from when Dx10 was released.:)

Which is why I would never buy a 1st gen card advertising itself as DX10 in the expectation that I could play all DX10 games normally.

Also the price is normally a kicker.

No one buys the DX10 cards for DX10, they buy them for the fastest DX9 performance and the prices are just the same as if it was DX9 only GPU. If people expect good DX10 performance then oh well they in for a shock, but 1st gen cards are certainly worth purchasing.

I bought mine cos it was the fastest card available at the time.

So basically, we agree :D

Well no . You wont buy DX10 cards as they play DX10 crap, I think they are worth buying because they are brilliant for DX9, DX10 is just a big marketing scheme I mean look at the comparison on MS site, Halo screenshot Vs Crysis , DX10 does not add to the cost of the cards as they would have been the same price if they were only DX9.

We agree because we both think that buying a DX10 card for a DX10 featureset is not worth the money. That was my initial point. I understand what you are saying about DX10 being more hype than anything else, but anyone who buys a DX11 card for DX11 performance at the first generation, should be wary. I did not mention DX9 anywhere in my first post on this thread. My argument revolved around DX10.

I thought you were saying something like this, 'I will not buy a DX10 card because DX10 performance is rubbish'.

Nvidia and ATI need to slow down and keep products on the market untill they start to seem unstable with current game developers.

However this may work if new DX10 cards (ie.9800) prove successfull with DX10 games.

The 8800GTX has been around and the top dog for an eternity (over 12 months) in GFX terms. Even Optical Drives get updated more often than that.

Seems ms plan to force everyone to downgrade to vista with dx10 has failed so they are trying to bring a new version out instead.

Also, I doubt I will make the mistake of buying the first-generation of DX11 cards.

1st gen DX11 cards will likely give blistering DX9/10 performance though.
It's also debatable as to whether people who bought DX10 cards in 2006 really made that big of a mistake, given the fact that they are still up there with the best of them in 2008.

DirectX 9 has far succeeded my expectations, obviously Crysis doesn't need directx 10 to get the extra visuals, it can all be done in directx9, plus Bioshock and UT3 look great in directx 9. No difference at all. Don't quite see where DirectX 10 is going let alone DirectX 11!

Agreed, i might feel different if dx10 games have been out a while meaning more than a patch here and there and one or two games
