Thats like saying, you are young, do what everyone else does.
Saying hatchback could mean a massive ammount of things really.

I liek the rover 200 idea, rovers are probably the cheapest runabouts you can buy, if you're lucky you won't get too many problems, they're a bit plasticy but they'll get you from a - b.

Just get a damn Honda Civic 3door.

You might spend more money on petrol but that money is instantly re-made throughout the year due to only having to take the car in for an MOT which it passes with flying colours.

i have one, and ive driven it for the last 4 years since i started driving. i hate the thing now, but i cant fault it for its reliability.

its 17 year old car and in the last 11 years its been in my family its broken down once. for a dirt cheap leave it anywhere car, you cant beat them.

They're cheap, reliable, pretty comfy, and have plenty of extras. The guy wants a bargain and they're a fair contender. A 106 is a decent little car, but they're so popular as a first car, they just aren't as cheap as a Mondeo. Nobody ever claimed it had style, but its a tough-to-beat car when the aim is getting something as cheap as possible.

I'll put my pickled eggs on the line and say 1 litre suzuki alto.
Tiny little cars, cooler than a micra and cheaper. Cheap to run, cheap to insure.

Yup thats exactly what I think because I've owned twenty... oh wait no Mondeos.

If I was looking for the best car for £500, I'd pick a Mondeo. It's a stupidly good car for the money and would whoop and cheap nasty hatch for the money.

I cant beleive we have people banging on about credibility and looking respectable in a thread about FIVE HUNDRED QUID BANGERS.

Whatever you drive you are going to look like a hardup skint driver of a crud old crappy car. You might as well get something comfy and reliable in the process. I wasn't going to say that becuase it sounds awfully snobby but honestly, can we shut up with the crap about 'credibility' in 500 quid cars now?
