ahh yeah, cheers for that been bugging me since i got the game.

Don't listen to them, they are actually places that sell liver. You can stop off at certain points mid-stage and buy some for your co-drivers dinner.

Just played Brindbella, Australia. WOW! what a stage, manage to clock 3:17.99 on my 1st go with stock celica. I love this stage!

Touche man, that stage is awe-inspiring, my fave stage up until I played it. Took several attempts to get through unscathed but did it,(can't remember time). My new fave stage is Numata in Japan..

good stuff, but doesn't like the breaking

I'm playing the PC version with a saitek pad and can say I haven't really experienced those problems, I'm pretty much sliding round every corner. The rear wheel drive cars like the New Stratos by Fenomen are an absolute blast to powerslide around a course in.

I also like the Big Rig trucks, they maybe be slow but they handle good and great for crusin round a track in.

Utterly awesome game. Just receieved my copy on Monday afternoon and I'm having a blast getting through it. I love the graphics, crash into a tree and lots of leaves start flying off, hit a fence and it breaks apart causing a nice big dent in your bonnet. Screw up the wheels/suspension and you feel vibration through the pad at higher speeds and the car veers away.

I love the different cars, modern legends to old school classics, although why the hell did they put the stupid lorry things in? Totally boring, slow as hell and just not fun. Don't much like the 4x4's either.

XBL is good, I actually like it done the way they have, it's a rally game, if someone goes into the side of you, its not like there's a tire wall a few meters away for you to bounce into, i can imagine if there were more than one car on screen, you'd probably be mid-powerslide when some numpty drives into the side of you head on because he doesn't know what he's doing. Result? you're out for terminal damage. Just had a few races online now and I like it!

Favourite game mode has to be Pikes Peak/Hill Climb events, some of those cars are insane!

This game is bloody brilliant with the wheel.

Whilst it might not be 'technically' as clever with the wheel as Forza, it sure as hell is more fun. Turning the feedback onto full is a riot! It's a full freaking workout!

I've noticed wheel times ARE slower than joypad times though, quite often mine and JUMPURS' times are very close, but some with pads are faster. I have beaten some pad users though, so it gives me hope.

Personally I would take slower times and more fun with DiRT though, it really is worth it. If you have the game, buy the wheel. If you have the wheel you MUST buy the game.

I recently bought the wheel, and the rally cars still suck. They just feel too 'light', they handle like RC cars, and stop on a six-pence. Applying the brakes deep into a bend just causes you to slide straight forward instead of getting the back end loose, and the more I play it the worse it feels.

However the buggys/ORR pickups/rally raid make it for it as they are huge fun, especially with the wheel.

Overall though I am really dissapointed in the rally cars, the handling is awfull.

The rear wheel drive cars do slide, but in a totally unrealistic 'snappy' way.

And the only easy way to slide the 4wd cars is by using the handbrake, or tweaking the setup to make the rear more loose, and even then it's not a natural progressive feeling to the way they slide, there just isn't enough 'weight'.

I think they are a lot of fun actually. I'd rather drive them than the terrible rally cars.

They are 4-wheel drive cars, isn't that a downside to a 4-wheel drive car compared to a rear wheel drive car?

Isn't it possible to change the brake bias towards the rear wheels in the game to avoid the understeer?

[edit]Should have read better as you awnsered this question further in your post :o [/edit]

i know what you mean, but i have gotten the 4wd Punto(?) into all sorts of sideways mess using the scandinavian flick - just struggling to contain it all on the pad...

need a wheel

No, 4wd cars slide very nicely on gravel. Getting the back end loose how I describe is called trail braking, if you have played Richard Burns Rally you'll know that trail braking (braking into the bend) will loosen the rear end up and allow you to have a nice natural slide round the bend.

What you are refering to is powersliding, and yes, RWD does that better than 4WD. But you can still powerslide 4WD cars.

As for tweaking brake bias, yes you can and it does make a difference, but it still feels too 'snappy' and 'light'.

I know Dirt isn't a simulator, but play Flatout for an example of great feeling arcade physics.

Hell, even the original CMR felt better, nice and loose and progressive.

Yes you can loosen them up by flicking them, but it just does't feel atall 'right' in the way they snap sideways.

The handling is incredibly poor IMO, especially the braking physics.

On some tracks the handling feels very nice, but it seems to struggle on anything with tarmac. The 'special stages' are a good example of this.

Overall after playing it more I'm a bit more impressed with it, still annoyed at no snow or weather though :/

Does anyone have both this and Forza 2? Its just that i dont want both games i just want one of them and want to know which is probably the best? and i dont mean just by which has better graphics, but like gameplay etc? and i dont want to start a war lol :p

Depends entirely which kind of game you like, for me Forza 2 beats CM Dirt hands down.

Both different types of games, I personally like them both, I enjoy DiRT for its arcadey fun and FM2 for its realistic sim action. If you want something a bit easier to play with a less steep learning curve then go for DiRT. If you want to spend a bit more time learning and perfecting then maybe FM2 is a good choice. I like them both and think they are both great.

I noticed you've hardly played PGR3. Give that a proper go before you try dirt.

well, i love Dirt. Forza is just... bland.

Dirt however has the offroad fun which gives an unpredictable, reactive environment - and the fishtailing is a user problem, not a wheel specific problem :p

Dirt for me deffo. And the handling is that far out really. Yeah its way over simplified, but having driven some of these cars in a rally/rally cross environment (celica GT4, Impreza, EV, bowler Wildcat and Mk2 escorts) its not mega unrealistic. The cars need to be a bit looser, and stop a bit slower i'd agree. Besides, the fun makes up for it imo.
