***Official DiRT Rally Early Access Thread***

Steam Page: http://store.steampowered.com/app/310560/ - £22.49 (10% off)

Welcome to DiRT Rally - a new world of DiRT. A pure expression of rally, the pinnacle of off-road motor racing and it begins now, in Early Access, with regular free updates including new locations, new game modes and new vehicles.

DiRT Rally captures the essence of what makes rally unique – that sense of trying to remain in control of your emotions, as you hurtle along dangerous, undulating roads at breakneck speed, aiming to squeeze everything out of your car whilst knowing that one crash could irreparably harm your stage time. It’s the ultimate test of a driver’s skill, and it’s the ultimate in high risk, high reward gameplay.

Does a mainstream developer/publisher using Early Access irk anyone else or just me? With 10% being the ultimate punch in the balls discount for being their guinea pig?

I'm guessing the 10% is just the discount for early access when the game launches at full price then the early access price is more like 30%.

This doesn't seem like a mainstream title though with it being a sim based Rally game on PC is a fairly niche market. Early Access is probably one of the only ways a title like this can exist from a larger studio, that said everything I've heard about it it seems to be quite a small team on the title at the moment and they are looking for feedback on where the series should go, which early access is great for!

I'm glad to see a Rally sim hit the PC market :D Also the post effects remind me of the classic Colin McRae games and not too overdone with crazy amounts of bloom etc.

Been working a treat for me! :D

Such a hard game which I'm enjoying! The career is also really unforgiving when it comes to budget and crashing/restarting that I've done a lot of :p

I've just played a good 8-12 races and wowzers! :D

I think it feels great and super scary when you are going at speed which wasn't that often for me as it is super tricky. I could see after a few more hours becoming accustom to the controls/limits of the cars.

So far so good though, feels a lot different from the classic DiRTs but does remind me of Colin McRae in the aesthetics.

Really dislike you.

And I use 3 1080p monitors, doubt that could be the issue.

From what I've read about the issue it seems to be a Steam install problem but I haven't found any decent trouble shooting tips. Most of them seem to be uninstall Steam/reinstall as well as the game while making sure you delete all the directories the game is using such as the Steamapps game folder, the save game folder in your documents etc.

One the of the fixes also seems to be disabling Steam Cloud. You could also do the good old delete clientregistry.blob in the Steam directory.

3 hours in to the career mode, I've done it several times with the Mini, have all the unlocks, hired some staff etc but still can't et anywhere near the top 3.

We're talking minutes here not seconds away.

Don't worries I was the same for a while! When in doubt just take it a bit slower than you usually would and try keep away from getting any penalties/resets as that adds a lot to your time! I also found Monaco had the easiest routes with the mini due to it being tarmac.

Here is the wheel FFB fix that others mentioned above:

http://www.racedepartment.com/threads/ffb-fixed.104679/

I haven't tried it myself but it might be worth a shot if you have been struggle with the lack of feel.

I had a few more races last night which were so much fun but also still terrifying, I barely apply full throttle due to fear of smacking a tree :D I can't wait to spend some more time with it so I can learn the limits of some of the cars.

For those who are not too familiar what does left 6 80 means like what does the 80 number means or 60 or 120...is that speed ?

I believe that is the distance, 80 metres. Usually just giving you a heads up you can put the power down for a bit but be prepared to ease off after the distance stated (depending on the corner).

Is anyone still getting the Steam 41 error? Supposedly the fix is to make sure you have over 3GB free on your C drive for the replay files. Seems to have worked for a few players!

Anyone else struggling with the Mini? I'm going about 40-50mph and it just doesn't like turning, even if I slow down to 30, and apply the throttle a tiny amount it just won't steer as I would expect.

It is tricky, those front wheels don't like braking, or throttle while turning. For tight corners spam the handbrake and for medium corners I would brake early and try not to apply too much throttle.

That's a point, I've got this installed on my SSD which is either my F or G drive, depending on which one I choose, Got plenty of space, but I wonder if its trying to find the exe file on the C drive....Hmm :/ My problem is I cant test that theory since my C drive is a 60gb SSD O/S drive with 5 GB left on it.

Hmm 5Gb should be enough from what I've read it creates a few gb temp file in your appdata to save the replay data. Random tip if you have already done it on your SSD, if you don't use hibernate you could delete the hiberfil.sys file to free up a bit of space! (open cmd and use the command powercfg -h off)

If it has installed on F/G via Steam then that should be fine if you have used a symbolic link then something could be messed up.

Question, I've got enough games as it is, but I've been craving a rally game since Dirt, and even that wasn't proper.

My question is this, is it going to end up being like Asseto Corsa, never being 'finished' or do they actually have a deadline? Is there a 'release date'? Do they have a plan or how much content ect?

I don't particularly want to buy into a half finished game. Been stung too many times.

They have put out their plan until November (see here: https://www.dirtgame.com/uk/timeline) which is where the game may be classed as released but as with most early access games it depends on popularity and community requests. The game itself in its current state is very polished and has a good amount of content so in comparison it would seem like a great £10-15 standalone game. The extra £7-10 to join Early Access lets you play it now, gives you a load of future content plus even more possibilities for the game changing/improving from community feedback is a great deal!

Compared to Asseto Corsa/pCARS this feels a lot more polished than they did in early access but it also has a lot less content. So at the moment it feels like a full production title just lack on content and features.

hate games that do that.
don't think it's good for my SSD long term I've only got 55gb free lol.

Im going to end up with loads of wasted write cycles.

we go to the trouble of disabling page files and moving them to a hdd but then games do this without an option to change the dir

my ssd is already a few years old it'll probably start shrinking soon

Most games have some temp files being dumped somewhere! For the concerned SSD user I would suggest symbolic linking most of your documents folder if not all of it to another drive. Even Chrome loves to poke at files constantly.

I also wasn't able to add you on Steam! Anyone is free to add me :)

This is 100% a thing and it's slowly ruining the game for me, the car will slowly turn into corners, and you kind of have to pull it out of the turn in. Which can cause issues. Not sure if this is the attempt at having the car follow camber or to aid me because I'm using a controller?

I hope neither as the camber doesn't exist in most places when it occurs and I don't want aid!

I've not read anything about this. So I could only suggest a few random things to try :/ Is it a deadzone issue due to the high sensitivity? Or having the FFB on in the options is messing up your controls? Try it with keyboard controls as well to see if you notice the same. There is probably some xml modding that could be done as well but I don't know much about that!

Needed to take a screenshot of this so I can keep it as a memory that I was 1st at one point :D

I think you'll finish first as that season ends in 20mins. Nice time as well :)

Wohoo! I won something ^.^ Now with DG joining an co back to the back of the field with me :D

I spent ages setting up my T500RS this afternoon and got it just right, I saw I'd been accepted to the League (Thanks!) and jumped straight in to the League Event, as soon as it started I realised the wheel was completely messed up again, it hadn't saved any of my settings! So I had to do the whole thing with a completely messed up wheel and no handbrake! It wouldn't even let me change in-between Stages :( And I didn't want to leave/restart incase it messed it up or wasn't allowed. Gutted. :p

That is annoying, but can you not change the controls in the pause menu? :o
