Dirty, dirty PCs: The X-rated picture guide

When I was fixing computers for Dell sometimes I'd get a dirty pc to fix like on the pictures from OP (not many but it did happen). I couldn't not believe we even fixed their pc for free when they arrived in this state.
 
I have to admit that I've seen just as bad coming into the workshop. One I had, was full of dust and dad a broken beer bottle. He said "I wondered what the rattling around was". A piece of glass eventually made it's way into the CPU fan which was why it was brought in.

I have an old hoover for these. It's worse when the owners are smokers.
 
How do people get their computers this dirty?? =/

I can't say I clean my out that often... I upgrade parts once a year and that's my version of "cleaning"... that is absolutely mad...
 
I think I've just been put off my lunch! Disgusting...

Just clean it regular, bit of a clean with the hoover every now and then, or a can of compressed air - works wonders!
 
Pics of comps made me remember a site a long time ago of a repair shop that took pics of what people did like inserting memorysticks the wrong way and forcing them in with a hammer or forgetting to remove the plastic from the underside of a heatsink.

Just a shame I lost the bookmark :(

Ive seen far worse than this in my time fixing pcs. Best one that springs to mind was in a garage, on the floor. It ran some machine or other and eventually died on them. When we tried to move it we found was literally welded to the floor by rust :p

Inside was years worth of welding residue, filings and dust/crap/hair/whatever. You literally could not even SEE the motherboard it was so bad :)

Ive found spiders nests, mice (mainly dead but on one occasion a living one in a nice little nest it had made out of wall cavity padding it had dragged in there. Ive also found daft things like condoms ( unused thankfully ), credit cards in the space between the floppy drive and the case ..... "insert credit card details" anyone? :p and other assorted things. God knows how some of them end up inside a pc.

Smokers are the worst as has been said. Some machines are so full of baccy you could roll a dozen of your own from it all.... and you can tell if someone likes weed :p its usually full of the stuff!

I stripped a laptop a few years ago that had some sort of live bugs in it, to say it made my skin crawl is and understatement, some of the laptops we fix are really disgusting, cat hair, food, drink, dead skin dust, you name it we've had it.
 
hehe:D

pulled this out of a pc on a hotel reception. the pc was probably on for 10 years and never had a hardware fault, so was just happly sucking in dust 24/7 .

see this kind of think all the time, and this is from businesses, not home users.

one of my colleagues was checking out a big dot matrix jobbie whne he reached into the inside he put his fingers through a rotting mouse :/ gross
