Keep getting this, mostly in GRID.

Any ideas what could be causing it? Its a real pain.

I had the exact same error the other day whilst playing grid, first time ive had it using vista.

I increased the fan on my card and slightly lowered my oc and it seems fine now.

Hiya's,

I want to try this reg fix but .........

When i goto the HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers in vista ultimate x64 i see .........

DCI
MemoryManager
UseNewKey

So do i add a new key named TdrLevel and then a new 32bit D-Word named TdrLevelOff and then just add decimal value of 0

Is this correct ??

Many Thanks

Ciao

This does happen in crappy old XP. It's nothing to do with Vista.
In XP you will not get that message, it will just exit to desktop, BSOD, or sometimes a different error message appears.

This can also happen with ATI cards, or any other GPU, it's not Nvidia specific.

Overclocking too high often causes it, sometimes it's the drivers, sometimes the actual game.

I have the same problem with my 2 laptops ( Vostro 8600GT 256 and XPS 7900GS 256 ) under Vista. The driver will fail and restart while playing certain games. Its nothing to do with overclocking has both of my laptops run standard clocks.

I get this with X3 and Sins of a Solar Empire on my laptops but don't get it on my 9800 GTX. I always thought it was to do with a memory leak.

Been getting it on my hd2600xt which is locked and wont let me clock it so we can rule that out sctraight away, its definately not the overclocking.
Someone told me it was the Virtual Memory, no it wasnt! I get the stupid logo with no description which annoyed me at first!
So I got an 8800GT and it appears to happen again however I think this one is due to my overclocking. The core on my 8800 sucks for overclocking and wont stay stable above 650Mhz :*( tho the shader clock is fine @ 1750Mhz and the ram fine at 2Ghz. I just seem to get it when im overclocking on the NV cards tho not on the ATi's where I just got it randomly.

Tho the TV thing is a decent shout as I too have my PC hooked up to my monitor and TV atm and it does seem to happen more often under those circumstances!

God I love PC Problems!

What tempted you to get an 8800GT? Thought you liked the 3870's? Bit odd that it cant clock more than 50Mhz.

Actually i can make it happen every time & it only happens when i overclock the GPU to far so no you cant say it has noting to do with overclocking but overclocking is one of the many causes .
And like many things can lead to a BSOD same can happen on the GPU & some games stress it more than others some software stresses the CPU more than others & overclocking any component just brings up the likelihood under more conditions.

Running stock does not mean that your GPU in your laptop are not overheating under them games that push it more.

My friend has pre overclocked 3870 at 850 & it will display error with out fail on most games until he lowers the clock to 840-800 depending on the game.

Well I sold my RMA'd 3870 for around £90 so got myself an 8800GT for £100 delivered! :) Basically upped my monitor to 22" and quite fancied a bit more power, though it is similar to the 3870 I know the performance with AA on etc is that bit better. Plus you know me, my graphics card use list reads like a who's who of the graphics world :p

I'm pretty disappointed the core cant clock really over 50Mhz stable as well mate but meh, thats just my luck. Also got rid of the overly noisy fan on the card and just stuck my Zalman VF900 in place so the temps stay nice and cool

I've edited the bios to put 1.1V through the card in the hope I could push a bit more out of it but unfortunately thusfar it would appear not to be the case. This has been attempted on Vista however so I'll give it a go on XP again and see if there is any change. Just think I got a duff core in the OC stakes however!

Sell your 8800GT, buy an 8800GT.

I had this problem months ago and "kind of" fixed it.

Card is HD2900XT running 2 monitors. The error only happened on desktop, never in games. I "fixed" it by disabling the Aero feature in Vista, months later the problem has never come back, not even once :).

I'm actually tempted to turn it back on and try again because I've installed quite a few new ati drivers in the meantime.

Card was not overclocked at the time (although it is now).

Although i suppose the fact that it's overclocked is irrelevant because it only uses 2D clocks on the desktop anyway.

Hiya's,
Where to start lol

Only time ever i have had this was in silent hunter 4 when using the 1.5 u-boat-addon

I have just found a fix for this in vista x64

It involves old 158.24 drivers + UAC + A few copy/pastes + CMD usage

Been trying to sort a fix for latest drivers 175.16 but unless my final method works it looks like the only fix i have found means using the older 158.24

Posting on a games forum soon with method etc

Will post here and see if it helps you guys/gals

Have Fun

I fixed it by just re install some different drivers, allthough I think it may be back as I have put the dodgy drivers back on lol.

Hiya's,

The leaked nvidia drivers from asus site 177.26 meant for the new soon to be released cards fix the vista CTD's and nvlddmkm.sys probs

Need modded .inf but they were great on series 8 cards

Hiya's,

It's fixed my nvldd.mkm.sys problems in the one sim i use

Well i got all flavours of the drivers with appropriate .inf's

Life's Good in my Vista Ultimate x64, Now i can solely have 64bit and not have to use XP for a lone game :)

Have Fun
