Divorce Proceedings - Financial Settlements

At what age do children typically fall out of the equation w.r.t settlement? Is it 18...or as long as they are in full-time education ie up to say 22 if doing a 4-year Uni course?

Many thanks all, *sigh* legal fees ahoy!

No kids

I was hoping there would be no need for me to waste money on a solicitor UNTIL I see a financial proposal that I don't like. This was the key point for me, if she'd have sent me a solicitor's letter with "I would like XYZ", I could then,

A. Say yes
B. Say no and get a solicitor myself

The fact they want to see all my finances first means I just have to start paying for one much earlier

Top tip to all, no matter what, sigh a blooming pre-nuptial before marrying!

My wife's divorce from her ex was uncontested quoting "irreconcilable differences" and reasonably amicable. £400 in solicitors and court fees.

Cost another £500 years later as it turned out that the part of the agreement regarding transfer of an endowment mortgage and a timeshare property hadn't been documented correctly by the original solicitor.

I feel sad for the ones who get divorced, What causes it? what were the points that the relationship started to break down?

I would very much like to know, SO i can avoid them.

You can't.

You can get no-blame divorces, but they require 2 years' separation.

It's actually pretty ****ing stupid.

Tell me about it. I went through this with my divorce. Neither of us had done anything "wrong" other than give too much time for our careers and not enough time to each other. We both had to therefore class that as "unreasonable behaviour".

Same here, just come up to 2 years but I'm loathed to spend £410 to get rid of her.

Might try to get her to pay as she was the one who left.

Mum said to me at a young age 'Never get married, never have kids'

Done me well so far.

I'd say never get married or have kids with the wrong person. Although if I ever find myself divorced, which is not improbable at this stage, then I doubt very much that I would ever get married again.

You just need a FINANCAL REMEDY ORDER signed by the both of you and approved by the judge , This is in addition to the divorce petition .

You need a paragraph that statest you are divorcing under a CLEAN BREAK OF CAPITAL AND INOCOME this can include spousal maintenance , property adjustment orders , pensions and inheritance - I suggest you include it all.

If you have no children and things are amicable DIY divorces are cheap and easy , her brief is fishing and your under no obligation to send him anything until he gets a court orser . Solicitors are leaches this is how they generate buisness , your soon to be ex-wife thinks he is her frend at the moment- wait until your both skint.

If kids are involved stand by to have a ****** life until they are adults and get a solictor fast.

I have 2 kids -18 and 14 , my boy is a plumbing apprentice and I can effectively be liable until he is 21 and finishes his training.

Thing is his boss is me ex-wife's husband and my son is earning good money , he drives a nicer car than I do , CSA don't give a toss.
