DIY Hand Amputation

He just wanted a way to get the DM to stump up some cash, nerve pain can be terrible and on the other hand he might be alright.

If he cut it off yet it still hurts he probably has a mental disorder rather than an actual problem with his hand.

The whole arm was always the problem. He had to get rid of the hand because NHS doctors wouldn't remove the arm when it had a good, functioning hand attached to it.

'I got rid of it because they told me they had problems amputating my arm with a good hand on it.
'So It took it off myself and now there is no reason why the can't operate.'

Edit: DM doesn't proof read this **** does it? typos now highlighted
(unless that's how he talks :p)

It all points to a cry of help for the pain. I have read about these things before but can't quite put my finger on it.

Meh...All the best jokes have gone.

Ouch.

My Grandfather was a double leg amputee due to Diabetes. He had two artificial legs. Every now and then he would scratch his foot or ankle, when you asked him why he would say that his foot was itching! It is quite a common occurrence, the brain still thinks its connected to the amputated limb and picks up/sends signals to it and is called Phantom Limb Syndrome.

I'm not going to join in all the pun posting, I think it's a bit off hand really.

Suffice to say the poor chap must have been in incredible pain to do that to himself :(

I had an cyst come up under a tooth over Christmas a few years ago, booked an appointment to get it seen too but they would only see me after a few days. After banging back the pain killers, I had to turn to brandy for some kind of relief and sure enough it quickly escalated. I was literally going out of my mind with the pain, had to get a taxi 20 miles on Christmas evening to the nearest emergency dentist. I can sympathise with this chap. Had I decided that I could have fixed it by bashing a tooth out, I would have had a damn good go at it. A shot of some awesome pain killer and 10 minutes in the chair was all it took :/

You got to hand it to the fella though for taking things into his own hand.

Crazy fool, clearly he didn't listen to his doctors who almost certainly will have provided him with the last line in the article, especially if they were considering a spinal cord stimulator

'There is no evidence that amputation removes pain. In fact nerve pain is often generated in the spinal cord, rather than in the painful limb itself; so for many people, the pain continues. They can also get phantom limb pain after amputation, and therefore may be in a worse situation than they were before'.
 Although perhaps it's best he didn't realize this or he would have tried cutting his head off instead.
