DLSS 5 preview

I'm not so sure now.....

You seen this?

The weird thing is it doesn't make much difference in this game, its far more subtle than i've seen it in anything else yet and the result is IMO quite remarkable, its does not look like its redrawing Gillion Andersons face and ageing it 20 years, it looks like the original lighting is a bit over saturated and its turning it down a little.

I can see where the artist may have done this deliberately to make her 'Glow' more but other than that the lighting in both Star Citizen and Squadron 42 seems to be pretty accurate and its just making small tweaks, a lot of examples in the video, he's had a proper good look at it.

Only problem is in 4K with a 5080 he's gone from 100 FPS in Levski down to about 35

Notice the green light reflecting off the side of his face? it didn't really change that at all...

Edit: Its already running RTGI, you just don't know because you can't turn it off.... Its CIG's equivalent to Lumen. came in about 4.7 i think.

Just the lighting on it own... Subtle.

What do you think?

Just for the lighting, Path Tracing does it better since it's not screen space as DLSS 5 is.

That doesn’t tell me what issues exactly is the point. Quality could be a reason, but you’re assuming they tested NVFP4 extensively and rejected it. Calling it just maths doesn’t establish that.
Again, multi billion company, big scientific and development team, this being currently their flagship gaming feature... Yes, for sure they didn't test such things. What is even that assumption coming from, because definitely not from logic, IMHO.
I’m not defending a guaranteed half-size, double-performance result either. Moving DLSS before upscaling reduces the resolution it processes but that’s a separate optimisation and tells us nothing about its tolerance for NVFP4.
Oh, 2 not connected things - again, I just commented that modders seem to be moving much faster than huge corporation in this case and show what's possibly whereas at the same time, that corporation tell us DLSS MFG can't work below 5k series (it can, as proven, without any big issues), DLSS5 doesn't work below 5k series (it works even on AMD and desktop as proven - because it is just a filter!), etc. Loads of marketing rubbish they say but very little truth. But again, not related to nvfp4, but related to the "they really don't care much about gaming and seem to be releasing half-baked things just to release anything".

I could be wrong but I suspect Nvidia may be blocking the DLSS5 mod, I went to enable it on The Witcher 3 and the effect is now non existent, Went back to the last game ready driver and it enables no issue.

Tried this on a RTX5060TI 16GB and my modded Fallout which has character texture packs and extended facial sculpting mods:
1.)In some instances it can work quite well,so it can make the faces look a bit more realistic.
2.)In other instances the shadowing/contrast looks off.
3.)Characters do seem to look older and a bit more haggard - it might fit the theme of the game though!
4.)Texture reconstruction errors and ghosting. Not sure if this is a DLSS5 issue or frame-gen,but if you have a tattoo on an arm for example it glitches badly. There can be visible ghosting in some cutscenes when characters are talking.
5.)Noticeable performance drop.

I tried the mode that apply SR after neural rendering and it's like voodoo.

Dropped my GPU power from ~210w down to 140w on SOTTR.

Also tried DLSS Bridge on RPSC3 and it does improve things, although I'm not sure it's enough to warrant the impact. Definitely seems to be more substantial on games over the last 15 years.

Either this has hit a weirdly personal nerve for you or you simply don't understand it.
Neither. Though, maybe the fact internet is now overflown with people posting those things everywhere about everything - including classical art and movies etc. - got a bit annoying. To most people online, it seems. By now I'm worried if I'll open the fridge a sausage will have "DLSS5" sticker on it... :p Expect an emotional pushback.
I posted a video saying and I quote "I think this looks kinda cool the way it picks out details" that is it, I did not tell anyone that it is better, I did not tell anyone they must agree with me, I did not tell anyone their art is not good enough, For some reason you have made up an entire narrative in your head.
I'll just quote what I said again "Don't stick it in hornet's nest and expect not to be stung". It's just internet, people in communities react like this for decades now. People IRL in communities often react much worse though (burning on stakes for being a"witch" is sadly still popular in some parts of our planet). Neither need to be mentally checked, it's literally normal, default human behaviour when they don't get negative consequences. Yes, we should be better than this maybe in few thousands years of evolution...
No, This is just pure lies now on your part, You're literally making crap up, I never said if someone doesn't like DLSS5 they are psychos and need to be put into asylums, I said people were having mental health break downs threatening people with harm and death over a graphical option which is psychotic behaviour, That is something that warrants psychiatric intervention.
You can't even hear yourself... You know, with communication the idea is to make best effort the other side understands you the way you intended but in this case I still hear "I'm the victim here, they are all insane" because of the filter. And I'm not talking about the few threatening you, I'm talking about the general reception of "go away with this rubbish" that you seem to have seen, judging by your words, but decided to completely ignore the actually mentioned by me reason (emotional reaction because of someone suggesting their fav thing sucks without filler).
FF14 has a very passive aggressive community, I know as I experienced it over multiple years, Many others have experienced this too
I've played ff14 for few years and other mmo too,I know how communities react to things like this. It's not unique or new but out of them all ff14 always seemed the nicest. That doesn't mean they aren't humans (as per what I mentioned higher in this post). IRL people do much worse things to each other for much less as a community (not taking any individuals but whole communities as such), generally, which is sad but it's a human nature. Neither of us can change it, it never really changed in all of human history, yet.
And again I never said it made it better, I said I liked the way it picked out details
Your personal preferences are yours and perfectly ok but when you put it to public judgment (like you did) don't be surprised people judge it. It's as simple as that.
(...) apparently that somehow in the twilight zone lala land translates into me demanding everyone must agree with me
You really don't hear yourself...

I don't think anyone has it working mostly trouble free one way or another - it is very much in the proof of concept stage at this point.

Injected into games it is often not being supplied all the information from the game to make it work i.e. stuff like motion vectors and having to infer missing information, etc.
Motion vectors, as per Nvidia's own words are just for stability of the filter in motion. They missing shouldn't cause the model to crash (and it doesn't considering you can use it in films and even on desktop these days without crashing) just motion to be a bit more unstable. But, people didn't just inject it, they also changed cuda calls inside it to make it work on other cards than Blackwell plus other modifications were done to it. The thing is, it's all brand new, not even a month old, where people reverse engineer things - one should consider it alpha release for few more months, really.

Just for the lighting, Path Tracing does it better since it's not screen space as DLSS 5 is.
DLSS5 isn't even screen space, it literally hallucinates lighting based on training data. It has zero idea about actual light sources location - it gets no info about it from game engine and it doesn't even check for it. It just sees patterns and matches highest probability solution from it's training data, as most AI filters do these days.

Whatever its doing, they got me..... if they can fix the performance. I also think its not going to work for every game, and that's fine.

This and probably Cyberpunk are the perfect showcase for it.

I had to use an app to apply the DLSS5 look onto screenshots as the game would not launch with it installed. Would be interesting to see what he's doing.

You're using OptiScaler? Easy Anti Cheat blocks it, CIG can fix that they have white listed other mods in Easy Anti Cheat. My Kraken's Star Strings for example.

TenPound42 mentioned he used Magpie.

I haven't tested this my self yet, haven’t had time but if he's using it... i think this is also what others are using.

I'd like one that combines DLSS 5 and proper MFG (not optiscaler).

Yeah, I tried optiscaler frame gen in Kingdom Come 2 (using with one of the several DLSS 5 optiscaler versions) and its FG doesn't work properly at all. The reported FPS doubles but it looks and feels no different at all, so it's not actually working.
Lossless Scaling frame gen is surprisingly good with this game though, but it has a bit of a performance hit that you can't really afford to waste with DLSS5.

Anyone tried any of the 'upscaler' versions that put the DLSS 5 pass before the Super resolution pass in the pipeline (so essentially DLSS 5 'runs' at whatever your in-game DLSS upscaling is set to, not your end monitor output res). You get a very tidy performance boost, but it does lose some quality that I notice too much when flicking between.

So even with a 5090 I'm finding the performance hit too much really for games without frame gen. I'm sure the modders will get it working well though, and no doubt before Nvidia, which is just embarrassing really....
