Do folks still use case

I use a case and screen protector. I do look after my stuff to the best that I can, but as much as I love the look of the iPhone naked, it’s too slippery in day to day life for me, personally.

Cases aren’t free. And you keep having to replace them as they get old. Plus they’re mostly plastic waste. I’d rather butt naked.
Yeah it’s true, a good durable case will be around £50 plus screen protector price, I’ve never had Apple care or insurance in an iPhone due to the cost but I’m sure you can claim a few times a year on the Apple care plan. I do prefer to handle my phone without a case as it gets a bit bulkier, but I drop it too much to not have a case

I believe you can claim unlimited times now. The other benefit of AppleCare is it extends your warranty past 12 months. If you pay monthly, for as long as you keeping paying, you have warranty.

I use a case and screen protector. I often have my phone out at work and have dropped it a fair few times on the pavement so it’s worth it for me.

I’m not sure if I have a different standard to others, but I’ve never been convinced by the annual “toughest glass ever” claims.

Admittedly, things might have moved on from my iPhone Xs and Watch S4, but at the time people were saying you don’t need a case or screen protector and from my experience, that’s demonstrably false. The Aluminium S4 watchface is made of cheese. And I don’t keep my phone in a pocket with keys or anything, I consider myself quite a careful owner.

I like a case on my phone as it evens out the camera bump and I like the look and feel of the Apple leather cases — although they’re only for the back so you need a separate screen protector.

If someone can show me a year-old naked 13 Pro that’s scratch-free, I might be persuaded, but I’m highly sceptical.

I would be ok going naked these days due to how big the phones are without added bulk if it wasn’t for the fact they’re are so annoyingly slippery in the hand. Holding my 11 Pro Max is like gripping a bar of soap. I used a pop socket for a good while which was annoyingly useful but they’re not the most aesthetic things in the world. Sleeves can be nice if you’re worried about debris in your pocket or placing it on a table but you have to get it out every time you want to use it. Cases give you protection and grip but add bulk and turn your pretty metal monolith into a plastic-y thing .

No complete solutions, everything is compromises… unless you’re minted and can replace the phone immediately if it gets damaged.

I use a case on mine due to work environment. Had the apple silicone which felt nice but was an utter dust magnet. It somehow got damaged without dropping it. Replaced it with an caseology nano pop which is a far better case for a third of the price.

People who use cases should try wrapping the phone, keeps the phone in the same factor and doesn’t scratch it.

Screen protectors on the other hand are a complete and utter waste of time.

Re: toughest glass ever claims, I seem to recall there is a trade off between anti-shatter and anti-scratch. So manufacturers have to balance this out, or at least they did a few years ago.

Re: scratches, I think people dislike the idea of a non-mint phone more than they are practically inconvenienced by microscratches. My XR screen has loads of microscratches on the screen but you can’t really see it in everyday use unless you’re shining a reflection in your eye.

I’m certainly on team ‘try to keep your phone nice’ but there is an element of ‘letting go’ that can be applied :p

Hence my approach is to go naked but only after a couple of years of using a case (I upgrade every 3-5 years).

My logic is that I like the way a phone looks, I don't want to hide that, they put a lot of effort into designing these phones and I'm not covering that up.

I don't buy a phone with the goal being to keep it immaculate for the person who buys it off me in xx years time. If I sell it and it's got a few scratches then I don't really care if it drops the value a little bit. It's about the current, not what may (or may not) happen in the future.

You don't buy a car and wrap it in something to avoid the paint getting scratched, or fit a large plastic cover around it to stop it getting dented if something happens.

Having said that, I do look after my equipment and it rarely ever has 'a few scratches' as I said earlier. If (and this has never happened) I break the screen, it's covered by Applecare+.
