Have been looking at my diet plan, and I think I need to change my carb/protein around a bit..

I was wondering.. do I NEED to get all my protein from read/white meat, or can I get it from vegetables and oats etc? The reason I ask is that, I have got all my figures correct with my current plan with all my foods layed out.. If I need to get my protein from meats, then I would need to revise my whole plan.

So.. would it be better to get it from meat, or should I follow the 'it's protein.. as long as it comes from somewhere, it should be ok' approach.

Just wondering :)

EDIT: Here is the diet so far http://adam.atomicphp.com/mydiet.htm

A medal for anyone who can understand it.. Sorry, I didnt expect to be showing anyone :p

there are other sources of complete protein other than meat - how the hell do you think vegetarians survive?

think outside the box ppl!

Other than Caprice, they all look pasty, weak and unattractive. ;)

Dead animal is great for protein.

So are nuts, beans and other such pulses.

Ok, protein can be found in many foods here is a list of the most common veggies with protein content:

http://www.weightlossforall.com/protein-vegetable.htm

add to that list:

Eggs: eggsellent source of protein
Milk: watch the carbs though.
Tofu: yuk! but good source of protein.
Fish: Depends if your a veggie or not, but fish is a great way to get several essential oils as well as good protein.
Cheese: better than Fish, but watch the fat.

Judging by the way some of them look they aren't surviving! Living dead!

Just like some people who eat red meat.

The fact that people think you HAVE to have red meat in your diet shows how many people don't actualy know the nutritional values of what they are eating.

Try shoping on a Holistic diet and you start to notice the amount of rubbish people eat every day!

Soya Milk is one of the few 'complete protein' sources. By complete that means it contains all 20 aminos (12 non essential/8 essential).

I haven't ever tried any so can't comment on taste or price, nor do I know the macro's of cals/fats/carbs/protein for it but they shouldn't be hard to find.

Something to consider :)

Don't the majority of veggies have to take certain supplements to make up for what they miss out on?

I'm vegetarian, pics here (cutting, not started bulking yet):

There are many, many great meat-free products nowadays like Quorn and supermarket own meat-free range.

Here's a rough breakdown of my protein sources:

Meat-free products = 40%
Egg whites = 15%
Vegetables = 15%
Whey = 15% (only supplement-sourced protein)
Cottage cheese = 10%
Soy Milk = 5%

Being vegan would be tough though.

I wouldn't think so as if they have a proper vegetarian diet they won't be missing out on any nutrition. I'm not vegeterian but I hardly ever eat meat or fish. I don't drink milk and I don't take any supplements. For a while I was practically holistic vegan. That was very tough but it is doable.

the 2 veggie women i have lived with had a few supplements for whatever reason, sure they both said it was to do with being veggie

It's being veggie, but not liking certain things.

It's very possible to be a veggie on a non-supplemented diet, and it's just as possible to get all the protein required for strength training from vegetarian sources.

But a fair few do taste gash. And none taste like steak.
