Do people really use Gmail?

I signed up for two accounts when it first started in 04/05 or whenever it was, however I never used them and therefore never gave out the addresses or used them on any websites.

I retrieved them today (to my amazement) and I had 200+ spam emails in each. Not so unusual you might expect, however gmail deletes spam older than 30 days.

200+ spam messages in a month on an account that has never seen the light of day? What must it be like for people who actually use their accounts? Is this normal?

I use my GMail account a lot for most non-important things ... get about ~30 spam a day and it's extremely rare that any of those goes into the inbox instead of the spam folder ... maybe one every couple of months ...

My spam box has had 4 email in it for the past few months, not that it bothers me as it goes into the spam box not the inbox, unlike hotmail

I get loads of spam but its all willy pills and thai brides, so GMail filters it out and I'm left with my sensible solicited emails.

Yes, for everything.

Its been my primary email account for a good few years, and I have never had to delete a thing. And with the ability to manage emails from other Gmail accounts, which include a more professional looking one for CV's and things, I see no reason to move.

The only hold back was the lack of IMAP so using Outlook with POP was rubbish, but thats now been fixed with full IMAP support.

All I need now is a proper Google build sync tool for the Calendar and I will be sold forever!

I have a hotmail account that is entered into any website that I dont want emails from, so all spam from them selling my email account on ends up there, which I check once in a blue moon.

i use gmail for any sign up to forums or driver releases etc or anything of that nature where i get advertising i get 100+ email a day from varies groups of sites
i have 415 emails in my inbox atm
58 of in the spam folder.

the thing i like about gmail is it only puts real spam in the spam folder its never got my real mail mixed up :D

Yep.. Same here... Probly 20-30 odd Spam emails a day... I use my Googlemail (and my yahoo mail) on my Samsung Omnia so I'm contactable 24/7...

Only specific people get my Yahoo... everyone else gets my Google!!...

Gmail the same as Googlemail? I have a Googlemail account which is the only email account I use.

Edit: to answer my own question they are the same.

gmail is by far the best online webmail system. Nothing comes close imo. Use it for everything :)

Except for any system offering MS exchange accounts.

I am just like the OP, I have two accounts, never given out to anyone, never used, both full of spam.

I'll stick to hosting my own exchange server and having as many email addresses as I like.

Never actually used MS exchange webmail, I don't have any hosting available that will support it, unfortunatly :/

I use Gmail entirely for its spam filtering. I route my own domain-based email accounts through it and send them to my iPhone or laptops, so I can access it on the go without the need to download all of the junk. Very handy, particularly as the iPhone lacks built-in spam filtering.
