Do you answer a call from a withheld number?

any calls i make from the hospital come up as withheld, so it can be awkward to recall someone or contact them about results etc as they don't answer. tend to end up leaving a voicemail with a contact number and get rung back a few minutes later

I moved into a new office about 4 years ago. I kept getting calls from Kitchens Direct - about once a week. A week before Christmas I took great pleasure in booking them in for an appointment on the first day we were closed.

They didn't call back after that.

I usually answer them but as soon as they say where they are calling from I hang up if its someone trying to sell me crap. One of our clients was a sales company and the sales guys used to get really annoyed when someone just hung up on them so it makes me feel a bit happier knowing this after they've wasted my time! :)

No, the vast majority of them will be from unwanted callers. If it is important they will leave a message and get called back.

I get constant calls from these guys, pretty much since I moved into my new house!

Many Government departments use 'number withheld' on their private 'phones. This is very common with Hospital Consultants and GPs who don't want you calling them directly.

Still, you probably don't want to hear your test results from the STD clinic ;)

Yes, of course

P & M have their phone number withheld, so it may be them, but I'm also quite capable of telling unsolicited callers to bog off (not that I get any ;))

I tend not to answer them as more often than not it's a marketing or sales call, unless I know I'm expecting a call from someone - though if it's important they'll leave a message and I don't mind ringing back.

I don't answer if it's a withheld number because it's either a prank call, an unsolicited sales call or a scam.

That's a days entertainment for me!

"What my computer is currently being hacked?!"
"Yes sire, for just £99 we can protect all your information"
"But it's not even on...."

:D

Unless I'm expecting a call or it's a number in my contacts I never answer it, it's a waste of my time talking to sales/scam companies...

If it's not a sales/scam company (or even sometimes when it is) they'll leave a message and I may ring them back...

I have a phone so I can contact other people and people *I know* can contact me, not to be sold stuff :p

I always answer them on my mobile, as they tend to be from my Mum calling me with Skype - I can't think of the last time I had any sort of prank/sales call.

On the other hand, I never answered the landline in the flat, as every single call was an automated survey/sales message. Only my girlfriend and I knew the number anyway, so if we were both in, it was unlikely to be important :p
