Do you change DNS?

It returns null replies for queries that would result in known bad addresses (C&C servers, phishing, malware delivery etc). As previously noted, however, its efficacy is woeful compared to Quad9 (9.9.9.9, 2620:fe::fe).
Does using quad9 stop you from going onto torrent sites, porno etc or do those gets blocked too?

ok... so does this dns negate the need for antivirus and firewall on the computers?
definitely not you should always have multiple layers of protection. but secure dns is an extra layer of protection as you have dnssec, doh/dot and malware blocking at the dns level. this dns also can increase performance due to ecs (if you use 9.9.9.11 instead of 9.9.9.9) and the big dns providers usually always have faster dns replies than isp dns.

nextDNS here. You need dynamic dns to use it bur I got it to provide content filtering at home. I block all social media, porn, gambling and a bunch of other stuff to keep my kids safe online.

It also enforces Google safe search etc. speeds are just fine from what I can tell and man does it block a lot of stuff.

I use a number of different dns servers for different vlans. The kids is on a safe search/browsing dns, our guest is on a safe search one as is our house network and I have two private ones for work.

I use unbound currently but probably won’t after a network refresh that I’m doing next month.
