Do you drive while using your mobile phone?

any different from having a four way conversation in the car?

Only thing is most passengers shut up when you get to places where you need to concentrate more. I know not all do it but most I find do.

I talk and text while driving.
And drink and eat, read paperwork fiddle with my ipod and myself.
Even performed sexual acts to female passengers while driving and also been on the other end as well.
Still here, my car, van and motorbike dont display the remains of old grannies and bits of school kid, never crashed or been pulled for it.

I even got changed into my kung fu gear while driving once and i have to admit, that was stupid.

I worked with the woman who's family were the main people behind getting mobile phones banned in cars. She was crushed by a lorry hitting her in the back when the driver was on his mobile. After years of protesting and collecting petitions they eventually had the law changed. RIP Carol Hammersley.

I have only made a call once while driving and I was on a long straight dual carriageway in the early morning and I found it really hard to do and I have never done it since.
I am absolutely amazed at the skill of some drivers who can turn corners while still having a mobile to their ears and lets face it, it is a skill.
The very worst I saw was pulling up to the end of my street and a woman drove in front of me and she had a fag and drink in her right hand and her mobile in her left  She also had three kids on the back seat with no seat belts on.

I only have one arm. So driving on a mobile would be considerably harder than driving whilst I change gear and steer with the same hand.

The stupidest thing I did whilst driving was a bong. And the most fun was gettin head.

if police are trusted to use communication devices at the wheel as well as other stuff like recording equipment I think it rather rich that we are not allowed to do the same....
Police also have exemptions from many of the road laws (speeding, cycle/bus lanes, traffic lights etc - all if "safe" to do so), but they tend to have a level of training that most motorists don't have and in most cases will have a partner in the car operating the radio anyway..

I do occasionally and will continue to do so until they start issuing points for being caught doing it.

I'm with dirtydog too, it's no more dangerous than changing radio stations, lighting a cig, having a drink (non alcholic obv :o) etc etc. Why aren't these banned, oh they can't be proved that's why so the police can't make money out of it :)
By all accounts you don't have long then, apparently the government is looking seriously at making it a points win prirzes offense as people are currently ignoring it (boy are some people going to be pleasently suprised when they get banned for using their phone)..

All of the things you have mentioned can/do lead to prosecutions if they cause an accident (drinking or eating at the wheel can lead to a fine/charge of driving without care and attention) - the main difference between using the mobile and changing the radio is the time your concentration is off the road which is part of what makes it more dangerous (not to mention anyone who has used their car for more than a day can generally adjust the radio volume etc the same way they use lights/indicators - without taking eyes off the road).

how on earth can it anger you? unless your business relies on selling and installing hands free car kits :p

It personally angers me because a woman I worked with for many years got killed by a lorry driver on his mobile phone. My brother in laws best mate (who is a professor) also killed four people in a car while he was on his mobile phone.
Really funny that.

I was nearly killed by a truck driver too, he wasnt on his phone though, he was chatting to his passenger.
Sorry for your loss but the driver that killed colleague was most likely just an equally useless driver. I used to drive 1500-2000 miles a week for over a year, pretty much with a mobile welded to my left ear I didnt kill anyone.

The action that causes the problem is the conversation with someone not in the same situation as yourself i.e. not in the car. There is only a marginal difference in the data for handsfree and handheld phone calls and the distraction levels.

Most studies show a danger similar to that of being slightly over the legal limit for alcohol, in some cases the number of accidents are significantly higher and reaction times significantly longer.

I don't think using the forums to discuss illegal activities is a good idea.........

Whats the difference between this and say someone who admits they where speeding. Both are illegal

Me on all counts bar kung fu gear, text and ipod :p :o

But i don't tend to talk on the phone on the go if i can help it, even with as may miles under my belt as i have, i do notice that it takes my mind off the job in hand  ;)

I've only ever used my phone once while driving.. Just to tell somebody I was 5 minutes away from their house.. Literally a 10 second call. Still shouldn't do it I spose...
