Do you drive while using your mobile phone?

I talk and text while driving.
And drink and eat, read paperwork fiddle with my ipod and myself.
Even performed sexual acts to female passengers while driving and also been on the other end as well.
Still here, my car, van and motorbike dont display the remains of old grannies and bits of school kid, never crashed or been pulled for it.

I even got changed into my kung fu gear while driving once and i have to admit, that was stupid.

Chuck? Is that you Mr. Norris?

*Changes into Kung Fu Gear.. and Loads UZI all while driving at 120mph down a road being chased by 6 baddies..All this is happening as I am in a conference call*

Nope, but I sometimes post messages on OCUK while driving :p

Seriously though, it's one of the most annoying things, when some ****** is acting like he owns the road and talking on his phone, then beeps you thinking it's your fault you they almost hit you

I don't ever.
My phone is usually switched on when I'm driving as I have a Bluetooth headset and I always like to know if a text has arrived for me to read once I stop.

It also winds me up when I see other people doing it because they are blatently breaking the law and putting other road users and pedestrians (including myself) at risk doing so.
I make my feelings for this rather obvious when I see anybody using a phone whilst driving towards me.
I cannot think of anything more annoying than being stuck behind somebody on a phone.
Oh you may think you're clever but you cannot drive, change gear, indicate and get around a junction/round-about whilst taking a call.

As for this post:

Yer - right, ummmmm.....this was supposed to be a semi-serious thread by the looks of things. I don't think bravado and dreams were to be included in the survey.

I cannot wait until they start throwing points around at people using phones while they drive - see if the arogant ***** still think they are as clever then.

I really dont see how, when driving down the M5, me using my phone hands free with my carkit is really that much safer than the guy going past holding his to his ear.

You are still concentrating on a call *and* driving, regardless of whether you are holding the phone or not...

Before getting my car kit I did ocassionally hold my phone whilst driving. I found it considerably harder to concentrate when I was holding it for some reason. There was a very big difference. When talking on the hands free with both hands on the wheels it's just like talking to a passenger or talking to yourself (if that sort of thing floats your boat).
I don't know the reason why but when holding the phone there seems to be much more concentration that goes into holding the phone and speaking on it. If I'm on the hands free talking and an idiot pulls out in front of me I'll stop talking, do what I need to do to avoid and then get on with talking. For some reason when I hold the phone I don't naturally stop talking or drop the phone. I keep the phone glued to my ear which can be bloody dangerous.

I don't know the reasons why it is as such but that's how it is for me and I'm willing to bet that most other people are like that too.

Using a mobile phone when driving is not going to add to your concentration but in certain circumstance I think it is ok.

For instance when on the motorway, sitting behind a lorry at a constant speed, not having to worry about changing gear, or overtaking etc. However at the same time I am sure there are some people who get on the mobile and use no discretion, thus take a roundabout using one hand ( to turn the wheel) whilst probably still being in wrong gear.

But yea handsfree is best bet. Without it you have to keep an eye out for police

Can I just add that I was rear ended by some **** using his mobile phone.

The last time I looked in my mirror before before hit, he was approaching way too fast and had his phone glued to his ear.

If mine rings I'll check who is calling and if important enouigh I'll pull over to answer it. Have used it when in long motorway traffic james though.

Just last night I was being followed by a woman who was holding her phone with one hand and smoking a fag with the other. Completely ridiculous. The sooner they start treating this with as much enthusiasm as they do speeding the better as far as I'm concerned.

In one scenario you have two hands on the wheel and in the other you only have one.
Two handed driving is always safer than one.

I detest people who use phones whilst driving. People who do it clearly don't cycle on the roads. I've nearly been hit loads of times by people coming round corners etc on their mobile, not concentrating/looking where they're going.

So as a consequence, if my phone rings when driving it can sodding well wait to be answered/called back.

BT car adapter for the AVIC, so Yes Constantly.

Isnt it funny how, 2 years ago, before the law change on mobile use, it was quite normal to use a mobile while driving. There was little or no stigma attached, yet now all change ;)

FTR - I have never used a mobile in the car without handsfree, it usually is the 1st accessory I get for the car. If I was driving anothers car or Hire-Car, the phone would be switched off. Thats what Ansaphones are used for.

I do it. No worse than someone eating food or drinking a bottle of water etc.. Still gotta take one hand off driving for all those tasks. :)

It is different, you need more thought talking to someone thatn eating a sandwich, also, if you come to a tricky junction, you can stop eating whereas the guy on the other hand of the phone may be in full flow during your tricky manovere

anyone care to admit to driving while using their mobile phone, :(

I use my mobile when I drive, but I have a bluetooth hands free thingy.

I must look wierd to people driving past when I'm on my own... it must look like I'm talking to myself! :D

thought you guys might be interested in this press release I've just been sent:

about Corporate companies and hand held mobile phone use by their employees while driving:

Norwich Union said:
Norwich Union, the UK’s largest fleet insurer, has welcomed an initiative which targets firms who fail to keep their drivers’ mobile phone habits in check.

The scheme, currently being tested in London, means companies whose drivers are caught talking on the phone while driving will get a visit from the police and be questioned about the measures they have in place to address the issue.

According to the Metropolitan Police, the programme is intended to encourage businesses to confront their responsibilities under health and safety law. Persistent flouting of the law could result in prosecutions and hefty fines.

In light of the impending Corporate Manslaughter legislation, companies need to be thinking about how their drivers’ behaviour could land senior managers in court.
